Lehenweiler combines a clearly dated local history with themes related to hiking trails, nature conservation and cycling. When planning a stay, Venusberg, the Brunnenberg juniper heath and the history of the village offer different points of interest. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first decide what to focus on during your stay based on the activities you would like to enjoy.

Local history and orientation

The development of present-day Lehenweiler began with a settlement: on 7 June 1709, Duke Eberhard Ludwig granted two veteran cavalry guardsmen the right to settle in the area known as “Lehen.” Lehenweiler grew from this settlement, giving its local history a clearly dated starting point. Lehenweiler is also home to the Bürgerhaus Alte Schule (Old School Community Hall) at Hauptstraße 2, 71134 Aidlingen.

Natural attractions around Lehenweiler

The Venusberg nature reserve can be reached from Lehenweiler; parking areas for hikers are signposted. The small road between Aidlingen and Lehenweiler is closed to motor traffic at weekends. Take this into account when planning your journey and check local restrictions before travelling. The area around Lehenweiler is also home to the “Wacholderheide Brunnenberg” extensive natural monument, which covers around three hectares.

Near Lehenweiler, a nature trail on Venusberg passes through the juniper heath. It follows easy paths and is designed for children and adults. This offers a different way to explore the landscape from the hiking routes described: the focus here is on the trail, the juniper heath and the age groups it is intended for.

Hiking trails and cycling route

The “Mit dem Schäfer ziehen” (“Following the Shepherd”) hiking route reaches Lehenweiler after crossing the K1063. Along the path beside a wet meadow, the route is marked with a blue diamond. The Land.Tour Venusberg takes a different course: after a short, steep climb, it leads onto the local connecting road between Aidlingen and Lehenweiler, then continues along a field path towards Venusberg. The routes can therefore be distinguished by their courses: one reaches Lehenweiler via the marked path beside the wet meadow, while the other continues from the climb along a stretch of road and then onto a field path.

There is also a named Venusberg route for cyclists: the “RadL Radtour 3: Venusberg” (“RadL Cycling Tour 3: Venusberg”) passes the “Lehenweiler” signpost and crosses the plateau to the Venusberg nature reserve. After the turn towards the reserve, the tour includes a rest area with views to the south, east and west. Comparing the options reveals a difference: the hiking descriptions mention trail markings, a climb and a field path, while the cycling tour crosses the plateau and includes a rest area with views in several directions.

Aidlingen in a broader context

Aidlingen also offers a broader natural setting to explore: more than half of Aidlingen’s municipal area is protected as a nature or landscape conservation area. The Venusberg nature reserve covers around 115 hectares and is the largest nature reserve in the Böblingen district. The heights of Venusberg offer fine views. These details put Aidlingen’s natural landscape in context, while the Brunnenberg juniper heath is a natural monument near Lehenweiler.

A Bodenlehrpfad soil education trail station is located near Lehenweiher along the LandTour Venusberg. Three nature information portals along the route draw attention to nature’s artworks and explain the Heckengäu’s distinctive landscape ecology. For a cultural perspective on Aidlingen, the East German Heimatstube of the Federation of Expellees is located on the second floor of the Hopfenhaus. Its collection focuses on Carpathian German costumes from the Upper Zips.
