Bad Schönborn: Wellness, History and Nature
Accommodation in Bad Schönborn
Bad Schönborn can be explored through several distinct themes: thermal brine and wellness, local and cultural history, and nature and geology. The THERMARIUM, the Homeland Museum of the Parabutsch Danube Swabians, geological sites and various trails each represent different aspects of the town.
Thermal Brine, THERMARIUM and Getting There
Bad Schönborn has ten healing and mineral springs in and around the town. The THERMARIUM Wellness & Health Park uses Bad Schönborn’s thermal brine springs as part of its wellness and health facilities. These include a sauna complex, a Dead Sea salt grotto, a medical fitness centre and a wellness centre. This gives a wellness-focused stay a direct connection to Bad Schönborn. Check the current operating conditions before visiting.
From Bad Schönborn-Kronau station, you can take a bus to the Mingolsheim Kurpark or Mingolsheim Thermarium stops. If you use this connection to get there, check the current timetable before setting off; the relevant destination stop can help you coordinate your journey with your visit plans.
Geology, Nature and Trails
Near the spa facilities in Bad Langenbrücken, the former Posidonia shale quarry has been transformed into a park. The Posidonia shale cliff in Bad Schönborn has been classified as one of Germany’s National Geotopes since 2019. A former quarry site in Bad Schönborn was designated a protected natural monument covering an entire area in 1987 and marked with an information board.
The Orchard Gene Garden has a circular trail about 500 metres long, as well as twelve large information boards about traditional orchards. This site combines a short walk with information about a specific cultural landscape. There is also the Bad Schönborn Herb Trail; check the trail conditions and access in advance. The Bad Schönborn Wine Trail is in the district of Mingolsheim. The three trails focus on different themes: traditional orchards, herbs and wine.
Local History and Leisure
The Homeland Museum of the Parabutsch Danube Swabians in Bad Schönborn-Langenbrücken displays mementos from their former home, including a model of a town plan, household furnishings and the spire of a church tower. Staged living spaces complement the exhibition; there are also exhibits on crafts, agriculture, and everyday and festive clothing from Parabutsch.
A tour of Bad Schönborn introduces the history of the healing springs and the development of the spa town. Its theme differs from the mementos and depictions of daily life in the Homeland Museum: the tour focuses on the healing springs and the development of the spa town, while the museum focuses on the Parabutsch Danube Swabians and their former home.
Leisure activities include mini golf at the course near Kurpark Sigel and the Mingolsheim small animal park. The Sole-Aktiv-Park has a beer garden and a cultural stage. The beer garden is open seasonally; check its current opening hours. For mini golf and the small animal park, it is advisable to check the current access conditions before visiting.
