Boating on the Regen
A 107-kilometre boating route runs along the Regen from Blaibacher See via Roding to Regensburg. One 23.5-kilometre leg of the route runs from Roding to Nittenau. You can compare the two options by distance and named endpoints: the longer route passes through Roding, while Roding is the starting point for the shorter leg.
Nature and leisure in Roding
Roding offers two nature trails with different focuses: the fish trail uses information boards to explain the way of life and diversity of fish native to the Regen. The bee trail presents the diversity of honeybees and their products. This lets you choose your area of interest: native fish and their way of life, or bees and their products.
The leisure area at Esper in Roding also offers a range of specific attractions. These include a skate park with a mini ramp, ledges and a box. The Jungle Arena consists of a climbable dome structure and a pyramid-shaped octagonal net. Its structure is more than six metres high and offers views of the surrounding trees and the Regen floodplains. The area also includes a water experience platform right on the Regen, designed to help visitors experience nature.
Culture and events in Roding
St Joseph’s Chapel in Roding was originally the baptistery of Roding’s original church, dating from the 7th or 8th century. The upper floor, added later, contains 13th- and 14th-century frescoes in the Romanesque and Gothic fresco-secco techniques. St Anne’s Chapel is built onto the old cemetery wall; it replaced an earlier building around 1650. The Dance of Death fresco in Roding, on the cemetery wall, was probably created around the middle of the 17th century based on an older design.
The Roding Fire Brigade Museum displays more than 250 historic firefighting appliances, uniforms and documents across two floors. The Fronfeste cultural centre in Roding hosts changing exhibitions, theatre, films and cabaret. If you are planning to attend a specific event, check the current programme at Fronfeste. Every year on 15 August, the Roding pilgrimage on foot sets off after the festive service at the Heilbrünnl Church and takes four days to reach Altötting and the Black Madonna in the Chapel of Grace.
The Roding water rescue service traditionally swims through the Regen carrying torches; the torch swim is a highlight for visitors. You can enquire with the Roding water rescue service about swimming lessons; contact options are also available for training and swimming badges.
