Maple: Forest, Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Maple
Maple brings together forest scenery, trails and cultural attractions, offering a range of themes to help you plan your trip. The approximately 2,000-hectare Ahorn Forest gave the municipality of Ahorn its name. In the wider Main-Tauber District destination, you can explore the forest on cycling and hiking trails as well as walking routes. When looking for a hotel in Ahorn, you can first consider whether cycling, a hike, a summer visit to the outdoor swimming pool or a cultural theme will shape your stay.
Routes with different profiles
The “Around the Ahorn Forest” cycling route starts and ends at the town hall in Eubigheim. The “LT 19 Grünkern and Orchard Meadows” hike crosses a stream, passes colorful fields and continues to Berolzheim. On Adventure Tour 8, the “Grünkern Cycle Route,” the route runs through the river valley of the Eubigheimer Bach for several kilometers near Eubigheim. To narrow down your options, compare the features: a cycling tour with the same start and finish point, a hike ending in Berolzheim, or a stretch through a river valley on a cycling route.
Swimming and culture in Ahorn
In summer, the family-friendly outdoor swimming pool in Ahorn invites you to visit. If swimming at the outdoor pool is important to your trip, plan it as a seasonal part of your stay. The local history museum in Berolzheim is one of the attractions in the municipality of Ahorn. The former Bettendorfsche Castle in Ahorn was built in 1566, thoroughly restored in 2009, and now serves as the municipal administration’s headquarters. It is considered a cultural monument of special importance.
The Main-Tauber District as a wider area to explore
For further cycling plans in the Main-Tauber District, the district’s cycling map provides an overview. It lists 18 circular and point-to-point tours ranging from 24 to 240 kilometers, including the five-star cycling route “The Classic,” the Taubertal Cycle Route, the Wine Cycling Tour and the Main-Tauber-Franconian Cycling Loop. Check route details before setting out.
In the Main-Tauber District, Bronnbach Monastery is a former Cistercian monastery. Wine tastings can be booked at the Taubertal Wine Shop in the monastery, where more than 20 winegrowers and wineries present selected wines from Baden, WĂĽrttemberg and Franconia. The Bronnbach cultural events at the monastery include concerts, readings, exhibitions, wine and culinary events, as well as lectures.
Another cultural highlight in the Main-Tauber District is the Teutonic Order Castle in Bad Mergentheim. From 1525 to 1809, it was the residence of the Grand Masters of the Teutonic Order. Today, it houses a museum covering approximately 3,000 square meters, devoted to the Order’s 800-year history and the history of the town. It also features the Mörike Cabinet, a collection of dollhouses, the Adelsheim antiquities collection and an exhibition on the Neolithic period in the Tauber Valley.
Weikersheim Palace adds another perspective on regional architectural history. Built around 1600 on the site of a moated castle, it features a 40-meter-long and 12-meter-wide Renaissance Knights’ Hall with life-size animal sculptures and a freestanding ceiling depicting hunting scenes, as well as fully preserved Baroque living quarters. The Main-Tauber District thus brings together different cultural highlights: monastic history and events in Bronnbach, the history of the Order and the town in Bad Mergentheim, and Renaissance and Baroque architecture in Weikersheim.
