Igersheim
Accommodation in Igersheim
Igersheim combines the Tauber landscape with hiking trails, nature reserves and places of interest relating to local history. The main settlement lies on the Tauber between four slopes. The Altenberg, Neuhaus and Lindach nature reserves are located within the municipality; they are associated with rare plants and animals. When planning your stay, you can give different weight to the landscape, hiking and local history.
Hiking Trails and Views
Igersheim has ten numbered circular trails and three themed hiking trails. The Panoramaweg Taubertal and the Jakobsweg Taubertal also pass through the town. This distinguishes circular and themed trails from the two named Taubertal routes. If you choose a particular route, check its current course and signage before setting out; route details may change.
There are two ways to climb to Neuhaus Castle: the stairway and the IGH-50 hiking route. The climb offers views across the Middle Tauber Valley. Trail conditions may affect access and the views, so it is worth checking current notices before setting out. The Tour de Igersheim is approximately 34 kilometres long. Treat this distance as an estimate and check the current route information for this trail as well.
Neuhaus Castle and Local History
The ruins and archaeological sites of Neuhaus Castle are open to the public. Historical guided tours and individual visits are available. This gives you the choice between a tour focused on history and an independent visit. If you are planning a guided tour or an individual visit, check the latest visitor information in advance, as schedules and arrangements may change.
The museums also offer different insights into local history. The permanent exhibition at the Igersheim Local History Museum includes an original shoemaker’s workshop, a kitchen, and living and sleeping areas from earlier generations. Craftsmanship and domestic life are presented side by side. The museum is on the third floor of the Kulturhaus and can be reached by lift. If you rely on the lift, it is best to confirm this access information before your trip.
A historic blacksmith’s workshop, established in 1830, has been preserved at the Neuses Blacksmith Museum. Visits are possible by prior arrangement. Be sure to arrange your visit in advance. A comparison with the Local History Museum is an obvious one: the latter also includes a kitchen and living areas in its exhibition, while the Blacksmith Museum focuses on the historic craft of blacksmithing.
Town Centre and Practical Planning
Möhlerplatz is Igersheim’s distinctive town centre and includes both the old and the new town halls. The two town halls give the square a particular connection to local history and add another historical dimension to the townscape alongside the museum visits.
Igersheim has very good public transport connections within the Liebliches Taubertal holiday region. As connections and timetables can change, check departures for your travel date in advance. Boat rentals are also available on the Tauber. If you would like to include this in your plans, check current availability and the operator’s terms in advance.
