Mutlangen offers visitors a variety of themes: experiencing nature, incorporating movement exercises and exploring local history from different periods. These highlights can guide you when searching for a hotel in Mutlangen and planning your stay around your personal interests.

Experience Nature in Mutlanger Heide

The nature trail in the Wildpflanzenpark Mutlanger Heide is designed for children, young people and families. At nine stations, visitors can experience, observe and understand nature; an activity sheet invites them to take part. This offering combines nature observation with participation: the stations provide the framework, while the sheet offers an opportunity to get involved.

Local History on Two Timescales

In the 1980s, Mutlangen came to the attention of the world through peace movement protests against the deployment of Pershing II missiles. A different timescale shapes the Mutlanger Heide historical trail: seven information boards explain how the Mutlanger Heide has been used over the past 2,000 years. The trail begins on Rainhaldenweg, between Heideschule and Franziskusgymnasium, and ends at former ammunition bunkers. These two historical perspectives offer different scales: the protests brought Mutlangen to international attention in the 1980s, while the trail explores the use of the heath over two millennia.

Exercises for a Walk or a Break

The energy course comprises eight neuroenergetic exercises. You can use them on a walk or as a short break-time routine at home. This makes it different from the stations in the Wildpflanzenpark: there, the focus is on experiencing, observing and understanding nature; the course offers eight exercises for two different settings. Nature observation at the stations and an exercise routine therefore provide different options to match your interests.

A Distinctive Perspective on the Ostalbkreis

Within the broader travel destination of the Ostalbkreis, Rainau offers a distinctive focus on the Limes. The Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005, runs for around six kilometres through the municipality of Rainau, in the districts of Buch, Schwabsberg and Dalkingen. The signposted Limes circular hiking trail leads from the Limes wall and tower between Buch and Schwabsberg through Mahdholz Forest, following the Limes to the southern edge of Schwabsberg. In Limes Park Rainau, the most scenic sections and most significant individual monuments of the Limes have been preserved in an exceptional concentration. A reconstructed watchtower offers panoramic views across the Ostalb, and the Limestor Dalkingen is a unique structure along the entire stretch of the Limes between the Rhine and the Danube.

You can also compare the distances of various hiking routes in the Ostalbkreis: the Limes circular hiking trail near Rainau is around eleven kilometres long and takes approximately two and a half hours on foot. Wanderblume Route 4, “Im Felsenmeer,” covers 17 kilometres, starts at the village hall in Bartholomä and runs through the Felsenmeer and Wental valleys to Hirschtal near Steinheim. These routes offer a choice of two different distances and named landscapes.
