Angelbachtal: Nature, Park and Local History
Accommodation in Angelbachtal
Angelbachtal combines experiences in nature with local history, visible in its buildings, notable figures and art. Eichtersheim Palace Park, the Angelbachtal Nature Trail and historic sites offer different starting points for planning your trip. If you are looking for a hotel in Angelbachtal, you can choose what matters most to you: the expansive park and woodland themes, or architectural and local history.
Nature in the Palace Park and Along the Circular Trail
The historic Eichtersheim Palace Park is an expansive park with numerous rare trees and is a popular destination for outings and recreation. An arboretum trail was established in the park in 2023; information boards explain the distinctive features of individual trees. The Angelbachtal Nature Trail offers a different focus: it is a circular trail about 2.8 kilometers long, with activity stations and information boards on various woodland topics. The two attractions therefore differ in their focus: the park highlights individual rare trees, while the trail covers a range of woodland topics.
History, Architecture and Art
Friedrich Hecker, a leading revolutionary and popular hero of the 1848 freedom movement, was born in Eichtersheim in 1811. The Evangelical Church in Eichtersheim was built of sandstone in 1790. Hecker’s birthplace and the church building mark different points of historical interest: Hecker is associated with the 1848 freedom movement, while the church dates from 1790.
The Old Pharmacy is also associated with a notable figure. It stands right beside the Angelbach stream; geographer Friedrich Ratzel spent his apprenticeship and youth there. The Old Synagogue survived the Nazi era relatively unscathed. Round-arched windows are still visible on the outside, and the interior has been restored to its original design. The building is privately owned. More than ten large sculptures by Professor JĂĽrgen Goertz stand on Friedrich Hecker Square and in the palace park. Local points of interest thus include biographical connections, historic architecture and outdoor works of art.
An Event on Whit Monday
A rowing-boat competition with surfboard races is held in the palace pond on Whit Monday. The competition is a recurring event; the date of Whit Monday varies from year to year. If the event is important to your travel plans, check the specific event dates for the year you are traveling.
