Epfendorf is a municipality in Germany, in the Rottweil district of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The river, valley slopes and protected areas give the landscape clearly defined contours; these are complemented by trails, an early documented history and named places in the surrounding area. The Neckar and its valley slopes run through Epfendorf. They are part of the Neckar Valley Landscape Protection Area and the Neckar Valley between Rottweil and Sulz FFH area. The Schlichem Valley lies southeast of Epfendorf and is designated as a nature and bird sanctuary. Thus, both river landscapes and designated protected areas with their own names are connected with the municipality and its surroundings.

Nature

Around Epfendorf, the landscape references continue with individual names. Bettenberg, Tann and Tonau are located in the area surrounding Epfendorf. In the wider regional area lies Rindelberg. The places mentioned represent different spatial references: some belong to the surrounding area, while Rindelberg is assigned to the wider regional area. This distinction is also retained when considering the landscape names.

Trails

One central trail is the Epfendorf Contemplation Trail. It follows ten stations from the Neckar in the town center uphill to the Marien Chapel. Nature, culture and spirituality are the themes of this trail. The route therefore connects a starting point by the river with a higher, named destination and arranges the stations along a clear course. Other trails around Epfendorf include the Neckar Trail and the Oberndorf Scheffel Trail. Alongside the Contemplation Trail, there are therefore two other explicitly named trail connections in the area surrounding Epfendorf.

History and Culture

The town's history includes two dated references. Epfendorf was first documented in 994. Below the Käppeleshalde lies an aligned burial ground dating from the eighth century. These two details combine an early written reference with an archaeological site assigned to a significantly earlier period.

Several cultural sites in the surrounding area also have their own names. Lichtenegg Castle is located in the immediate vicinity of Epfendorf. St. George's Church is located in the surrounding area. The Brewery Museum and Ramstein Ruin are located in the wider regional area. The castle, church, museum and ruin do not belong to the same spatial area: Lichtenegg Castle is assigned to the immediate vicinity, St. George's Church to the surrounding area, while the Brewery Museum and Ramstein Ruin are located in the wider regional area.

The landscape and cultural references can be read closely alongside one another in Epfendorf: the Neckar and its valley slopes shape the geographical classification, the Contemplation Trail connects ten stations with nature, culture and spirituality, and the dated historical details complement the named places in the surrounding area. This creates a picture of the town in which protected areas, trails, history and cultural sites are each connected with their own name and spatial classification.

For an overnight stay in Epfendorf, the desired focus on nature can be compared with the information on the respective accommodation page. Travel dates, room category, price breakdown and cancellation conditions provide four objective criteria for this purpose. The travel period sets the timeframe, the room category describes the desired accommodation, the price breakdown shows how the price is structured, and the cancellation conditions specify the rules for changing or canceling a booking. When traveling with several people, you can compare these four details at your leisure and adapt them to your own travel plans.
