Dachsberg (Southern Black Forest) combines a variety of hiking trails with insights into mining history and traditional forest beekeeping. When planning your trip, you can choose between routes through the countryside, themed trails and the Mineral Museum. Which stop takes center stage depends on whether you would rather explore a route or learn more about historical activities and the region’s minerals.

Experience Hiking and Mining History

The Albsteig Schwarzwald has been a premium hiking trail since 2017. Its route runs from the mouth of the Alb near Albbruck to its source at Feldberg and climbs up to Dachsberg along the way. From there, the trail offers fantastic views. Its described route therefore stretches from Albbruck to Feldberg and also passes through Dachsberg.

Another focus is the mining trail. The approximately seven-kilometer route links former mining sites. You can start at the Mineral Museum in Urberg or at the town hall in Wittenschwand. The approximate length and the two stated starting points give you specific information for planning; the theme focuses on Dachsberg’s former mining sites.

In Dachsberg-Urberg, near the “Goldenhof,” the Zeidlerpfad trail is dedicated to the historical practice of forest beekeeping. It shows how honey was once harvested and bees were kept, offering insights into traditional forest beekeeping and its ecological importance. Unlike the mining trail, the focus here is on the historical use of bees.

Trail Network in Dachsberg and Ibach

Dachsberg and Ibach have an extensive network of trails for hiking, Nordic walking, cycling and winter excursions. It is open to residents, people seeking local recreation and tourists alike. The designated Nordic walking routes are marked with round yellow signs. If you use these routes, you can follow this signage; it distinguishes the Nordic walking options from the other trails and tours mentioned.

In winter, groomed hiking trails through the plateaus and forests are described. This is a seasonal option and depends on snow conditions. Dachsberg and Ibach are also members of the Black Forest Biosphere Reserve, established in 2016. The trails, the winter landscape and membership in the biosphere reserve are different aspects of the area: the first offer ideas for activities, while the latter places Dachsberg and Ibach within the biosphere reserve.

Mineral Museum and Planning Your Visit

The “Gottesehre” Mineral Museum in Dachsberg-Urberg provides information about the disused mine through a film and other media. Several display cases showcase minerals from the mine. Together with the mining trail, it offers two different ways to explore the subject: the trail connects former mining sites along an approximately seven-kilometer route, while the museum provides information about the mine and displays minerals from it.

The Mineral Museum is listed as open on Sundays and Thursdays from Easter to November, as well as during the Christmas holidays in Baden-Württemberg, each time from 2 to 4 p.m. Before traveling, check whether these seasonal hours apply to your planned visit. This will help you schedule a museum visit without treating the stated opening hours as a year-round offering.
