Discover Rickenbach: Nature, Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Rickenbach
Explore Rickenbach through its distinctive natural features, trails and cultural sites. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether to focus on the Solfelsen rock, hiking opportunities, or historical and artistic themes. These interests can also guide your search for a hotel in Rickenbach, helping you choose the destination based on what you’d like to explore there.
Natural landmarks and waterfall
The Solfelsen rock has been a registered natural monument since 1950. The rock is 5.40 metres high and weighs around 230 tonnes. It is not a glacial erratic, but was formed through prolonged weathering. Its height, weight and formation give this natural monument a distinctive character.
At the Strahlbrusch waterfall, a rocky outcrop secured with a railing offers a view of the rugged cliffs over which the Seelbach plunges down into the Murg Valley. The Solfelsen rock and the waterfall represent different aspects of nature: here, a rock shaped by weathering; there, water and cliffs in the valley.
Hiking and outdoor activities
The certified premium hiking trail “Hotzenpfad” is signposted separately along its entire length. In addition, a well-developed and marked network of trails offers hiking opportunities through Rickenbach’s varied landscape of valleys, uplands, rivers, forests and meadows. This allows you to choose between a specifically named premium trail and general hiking routes through different types of landscape.
The municipality of Rickenbach’s leisure activities include the Maisenhardt forest adventure trail and mountain biking routes. Hiking, a woodland theme and mountain biking offer different ways to plan your time outdoors.
Art, history and technical insights
The Catholic parish church of St. Gordian and Epimachus features unique stained-glass windows and a modern choir image by glass artist Emil Wachter. Both artistic features give the church interior its distinctive character and make the church a point of interest for travellers interested in sacred art.
The historic rampart wall is the partially well-preserved remnant of an old fortification. Its course can be followed on the Pirschweg trail from Bergalingen to Rüttehof. The church and the wall offer different cultural themes: artistic design on the one hand, and the remains of a former fortification on the other.
Near the destination, on the outskirts of Hottingen, you’ll find the Energy Museum. In its outdoor area, a waterwheel and various pumps illustrate how energy can be converted and water pumped uphill without electricity or diesel. This adds a technical theme to nature, hiking and history.
From summer 2025, a new audio guide was planned to enable visitors to explore the outdoor exhibits outside regular opening hours and learn more about their history and how they work. If you’re taking this planned tour into account when planning your trip, check in advance whether it is available.
