Discover Flachslanden
Accommodation in Flachslanden
You can get to know Flachslanden through several specific themes: the farm and herb garden, the hornbeam maze, five very easy hiking trails and St. Lawrence’s Church. This lets you choose different focuses when planning your trip—plants and garden design, exercise on one of the described routes, or a historical perspective.
Gardens, a Maze and Local History
The farm and herb garden on Hammerweg was established in 2000. About 80 herbs and shrubs grow there, with descriptions on signs. The garden’s enclosure is another distinctive feature: it consists of numerous different fence sections. The garden is freely accessible all year round. The plants, signs and fence sections give you different ways to explore the grounds.
The hornbeam maze is at the entrance to Flachslanden and is freely accessible at all times. It offers a different focus from the herb garden: here, the maze is the main attraction, while the garden features labeled herbs and shrubs as well as a variety of fence sections. St. Lawrence’s Church, which dates back to the 10th century, is another point of interest. Its historical context offers a distinctly different perspective in time from the garden, established in 2000.

The stated times are also close: two hours for the Wildschweinweg and two hours and five minutes for the Bachstelzenweg. At the other end of the distance range is the Hasenweg, at 9.9 km. The longest stated duration, however, is for the Eichblattweg, at 2 hours and 45 minutes, even though at 9.4 km it is shorter than the Hasenweg. The Froschweg covers 9.5 km with a stated duration of 2 hours and 21 minutes. So when comparing routes by your preferred distance, you should also consider the stated time for each one.
Elevation provides another point of comparison: the Bachstelzenweg has the greatest stated elevation gain and loss, at 164 meters each. The Froschweg has the lowest figures, with 111 meters of elevation gain and 114 meters of elevation loss. Taken together with the distances and times, this gives a more detailed picture of the five routes, all rated very easy.
More to Explore in the Broader Ansbach Destination
Within the broader Ansbach destination, Frankenhöhe Nature Park offers a wider landscape to explore. It covers about 1,100 km² and lies within the districts of Ansbach and Neustadt a.d. Aisch–Bad Windsheim, as well as the independent city of Ansbach. The nature park is the source area for the Altmühl, Fränkische Rezat and Zenn rivers; information is also available about hiking and cycling routes and ranger-led tours. This gives the region a broader range of themes beyond the specific hiking routes in Flachslanden.
Cultural trails and museums are also among the attractions in the broader Ansbach destination. The Franken Literature Trail in Wolframs-Eschenbach is a 2.2 km accessible circular route around the town fortifications. Fifteen panels introduce authors from the Middle Ages to the present day whose works explore Franconia. In Königshofen, the “wiegen & messen” museum displays more than 4,000 exhibits. These include historic scales and their associated weights, cubit measures, folding rulers and vessels for measuring grain. The Literature Trail and the museum offer different emphases: one on Franconian literature, the other on historical measurements and measuring instruments.
