Langfurth: History, Churches and Leisure
Accommodation in Langfurth
When looking for a hotel in Langfurth, you can first consider whether local history, church architecture or outdoor recreation is the main focus of your stay. The municipality offers a range of options: the history of a chapel in Langfurth itself, churches and a memorial site in other districts, and leisure destinations in Ammelbruch. For orientation, it is worth distinguishing Langfurth as a village from the municipality with its other districts.
Churches and History
In Langfurth itself, eleven families decided in the spring of 1902 to build a chapel. The project was completed in the spring of 1903. The chapel’s origins therefore belong to a different era than the medieval churches in the municipality’s districts.
The Church of St. Peter in Ammelbruch, which is probably Romanesque, was built under the Lords of Warberg and dedicated to the Apostle Peter. Its Romanesque features include a round tower between the square bell tower and the Late Gothic choir. A second documented church was built in the second half of the 15th century. During the Thirty Years’ War, the church was badly damaged and looted; it was completely restored during renovations from 1752 to 1755. The building thus brings together different periods: its probably Romanesque features, the Late Gothic choir and the recorded history of its restoration.
In Dorfkemmathen, the Church of St. Mary, “Our Lady,” was built in Late Gothic style in the mid-15th century. It stands on a slight rise above the village, within a formerly fortified churchyard. The choir was documented as completed in 1452. Late Gothic furnishings include a crucifix and a Virgin’s crown. Beside the portal is a three-part wooden relief depicting the Last Judgment. It probably dates from around 1500 and serves as the church’s altar.
Leisure in Langfurth and Its Districts
Leisure destinations also differ by location. Langfurth has a multi-generational playground. The swimming pond in Ammelbruch covers just under one hectare. For children, it has a 30-metre zip line, a nest swing and a pirate ship. This means that the playground in Langfurth itself and the swimming pond in another district offer different options for planning leisure activities.
At the municipal level, there are extensive woodland areas and signposted hiking and cycling trails. The municipality of Langfurth is in the Hesselberg recreational area and close to the Franconian Lake District. Anyone wishing to include time outdoors alongside visits to churches and local leisure destinations will find another focus for their stay here.
Memorial Service in Matzmannsdorf
Every year on the second Sunday in July, a joint memorial service is held at the Augustana Monument in Matzmannsdorf to commemorate the Augsburg Confession. The tradition has been observed annually since 1980. If the service is important when choosing your travel dates, check the specific date before you travel.
In Dorfkemmathen, the Hutung is also one of the places of interest in the municipality of Langfurth. Together with the churches in Dorfkemmathen and Ammelbruch and the Augustana Monument in Matzmannsdorf, it illustrates how the places mentioned are spread across several districts.
