Lake Neubäu combines water-based recreation with a rare natural environment. It offers a practical starting point for planning a stay in Neubäu: you can focus on activities at the lake, nature, or both.

Leisure at Lake Neubäu

At the large beach, you can swim and sunbathe. Other leisure facilities include beach volleyball courts, a skate park, outdoor chess and a playground. If you’d rather be on or by the water, you can go boating, fishing or sailing; walks and regattas are also among the activities available at Lake Neubäu. This means relaxing and active pursuits are both on offer, without having to limit your stay to just one kind of leisure activity.

The availability of individual activities may vary by season. If you’re interested in guided excursions and regattas, it’s worth checking the relevant dates before your trip.

The pond ecosystem and getting to the visitor area

Covering 58 hectares, Lake Neubäu is a rare, nutrient-poor pond ecosystem. Its habitat ranges from open water and silted-up zones to lichen and bog pine forests. This transition also makes the lake a distinct point of interest for nature lovers: guided excursions explore its history, flora and fauna. Dates for these trips may vary, so check in advance when a suitable tour is taking place.

You can reach the visitor area at Lake Neubäu on foot, by bicycle, by car or by train. If you’re travelling by train or car, check the latest connections and plan your journey using your preferred mode of transport.

Culture in the wider destination of Roding

The wider destination of Roding offers other distinct cultural attractions. The Roding Dance of Death fresco on the cemetery wall was probably created around the mid-17th century, based on an older model. St Joseph’s Chapel in Roding originally served as the baptistery of Roding’s original church, which dates from the 7th or 8th century. Its upper floor, added later, contains 13th- and 14th-century frescoes in the Romanesque and Gothic fresco-secco technique. St Anne’s Chapel in Roding is built onto the old cemetery wall and replaced an earlier building around 1650.

Spread across two floors, the Roding Fire Brigade Museum displays more than 250 historic firefighting appliances, uniforms and documents. Fronfeste Cultural Centre hosts changing exhibitions, theatre, films and cabaret; check its programme for specific dates. For information, the Roding Tourist Information Office provides leaflets on leisure activities, hiking and cycling maps, and a current town map. There is also a digital information point in front of the Tourist Information Office, where you can explore local attractions, events and other offerings interactively. The skate park at Esper in Roding has a mini ramp, ledges and a box.
