Üchtelhausen: Forest Nature Trail and Farm Museum
Accommodation in Üchtelhausen
Üchtelhausen combines nature experiences in the forest with a glimpse into rural village life. The forest nature trail, vitaparcours and farm museum each offer a different focus: nature, exercise and local history. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, these themes can help you choose the character of your trip according to your interests.
Forest Nature Trail and Exercise
The Üchtelhausen forest nature trail is about 1.5 kilometres long and has eight stations. They cover tree species, natural connections and forest animals, including hedgehogs, sand lizards and great spotted woodpeckers. The trail is accessible with a pushchair.
The Üchtelhausen vitaparcours is a two-kilometre fitness trail with 19 stations in Stengacher Forest. It is suitable for beginners as well as experienced athletes. The distances are similar; what mainly sets the two trails apart is their focus: nature topics on the forest nature trail and fitness on the vitaparcours.
Farm Museum: Cooking and Rural Daily Life
A guided tour of the Üchtelhausen Farm Museum is themed around “cooking” and offers insights into the domestic life of farming families in the village. The collection includes horseshoes from the Thirty Years’ War (1618–1648), a figure of Jesus from 1738 and flax combs from 1844; the dates therefore range from the 17th to the 19th century. The farm museum has been in existence since 1992. Visits are possible for groups by request and on annual activity days.
In the wider Schweinfurt travel region
Brönnhof was added to the National Natural Heritage on 13 January 2016; the former military training area covers 746 hectares. Brönnhof provides a habitat for protected species such as the Bechstein’s bat and the great crested newt. Ellertshäuser Lake, in the north of Schweinfurt district, is used as a local recreation area.
At district level, there is an extensive network of hiking trails and a cycle network spanning more than 800 kilometres. The district is responsible for signposting the junctions on its hiking and cycling routes. Tourist-Information Schweinfurt 360° offers cycling and hiking maps as well as suggested routes; digital maps are also available on its website. In Handthal, wine hikes lead through the vineyards to the “terroir-F-Punkt” viewpoint on Handthaler Stollberg, beside a castle ruin.
Public transport connects the entire district with the Mainfranken region via main and secondary routes, school buses, city buses, trains, routes operated by other transport authorities and the callheinz mobility service. When no bus or train connection is available, callheinz takes passengers from a callheinz stop to a transfer point on a scheduled service or directly to their destination. Timetables may change; check the latest connections before travelling.
Werneck Palace Park invites visitors for a stroll with its English landscape style, exotic plants and pond. Parts of Werneck Palace can be visited, including the Himmelsaal and the Baroque palace church. Check visit details before travelling.
