Obersteben: Hiking and Wide-Ranging Views
Accommodation in Obersteben
Obersteben offers a specific point of reference when searching for hotels: hiking and cycling routes run through the village or lead to named destinations in the surrounding landscape. For orientation, it is useful to distinguish between types of trails and points of reference. For hiking, the HirschhĂĽgel-Weg, Jungbrunnen-Weg and Silla-Weg are relevant; there are also cycling routes that pass through Obersteben.
Hiking: Through the Village, Views and History
The Hirschhügel-Weg US 32 leaves Bad Steben via the road to Obersteben. It passes through the entire village of Obersteben and turns right shortly before the edge of the village. From Obersteben, the trail leads to the Wasserscheidenweg and continues to the Friedelhöhe. Almost the entire route offers magnificent sweeping views and impressive panoramas. The Obersteben–Schwedenwacht–Friedelhöhe landscape area is also of particular importance for recreation in the natural environment.
Another hiking trail to note is the Jungbrunnen-Weg HRW 1, which reaches the Frankenwarte on the 679 m-high Hirschhügel. The Frankenwarte between Bad Steben and Geroldsgrün can be reached via various hiking trails. Its panoramic views extend to the heights at the edge of the Höllental, Lichtenberg and Bad Steben. The trail information makes the distinction clear: the Hirschhügel-Weg is described as passing through Obersteben, while the Frankenwarte is the destination of the Jungbrunnen-Weg.
The Silla-Weg US 33 is an easy 12.9 km hiking trail. The Silla site between Langenbach and Obersteben is associated with a former chapel. A rampart with a well rises in a meadow alongside a former church path. Here, trail details such as distance and difficulty sit alongside a historical connection and a specific landscape feature.
Obersteben by Bike and Around the Village
Cycling routes also include Obersteben. E-bike Tour 1, “A Taster of Hell,” follows the road through the village. After Obersteben, it continues along Route No. 5 of the Bad Steben bike network; the route then returns to the edge of Bad Steben. A regional cycling tour leads to Obersteben, passing colorful meadows and the Frankenwarte with its impressive panoramic views. The return route passes through the Seifengrund to Bad Steben. The points of reference distinguish the tours: E-bike Tour 1 connects to Route No. 5, while the regional cycling tour features meadows, the Frankenwarte and the Seifengrund.
Tommy’s beer garden is in the Obersteben district of Bad Steben and has a trampoline and a football field. If you are planning a visit, check the current opening hours in advance.
