Haag an der Amper brings together several travel interests: historic architecture, a regional cycling route and activities on the water. When choosing your destination, you can decide whether churches and architectural history, cycling or stand-up paddleboarding at Haager Weiher are important to your trip. The annual Lampion Festival and a concert hosted by the local cultural association also provide specific reasons to visit.

Castle Park, Schlossallee and Events

The castle park and Schlossallee were laid out in the 17th or 18th century; since 1926, the park has served as a beer garden. This brings together a historic park and a use that dates back to the early 20th century. Every year in early July, the Lampion Festival lights up Schlossallee with many bright colors. The local cultural association also holds a concert at Haager Weiher every year. The events take place in different locations: the Lampion Festival is held on Schlossallee, while the concert takes place by the pond. If you want to plan your stay around an event, check the specific date, as event dates may change.

Churches and Architectural History

The parish church of St. Laurentius is a Baroque landmark in Haag. From the town center, you can reach the churchyard via a double-flight Baroque staircase. Art-historical details include the fine Rococo decoration by Franz Xaver Feichtmayer and the ceiling frescoes on the barrel vault by court painter Christian Winck, dating from 1783.

The listed branch church of St. Stephanus at Kirchstraße 6 offers a different architectural accent: it is a Late Gothic hall church dating from before 1493. The comparison is clear: at St. Stephanus, the building type and date of construction take center stage; at St. Laurentius, it is the Baroque staircase, Rococo decoration and 1783 frescoes. This makes it possible to distinguish two different periods and architectural styles in Haag.

Another historic building is the residential section of the former shepherd's house in Wolfersdorf, at Hauptstraße 3a. The single-story block construction with a Greddach roof dates from the second half of the 18th century. Around 1990, the residential section was dismantled and rebuilt at its current location in 1991. Its history therefore includes both its original construction and a later change of location. The 1991 reconstruction should be distinguished from the building’s construction in the 18th century.

Cycling Route, Pond and Landscape

The regional 2-Flüsse cycling route leads to Haag. From there, you can make a short detour towards the town center to the parish church of St. Laurentius, then continue along the Amper Canal towards Zolling. The route description thus combines a detour to the church with onward travel along the canal towards Zolling.

Haager Weiher is a gravel pit lake where stand-up paddleboarding is permitted. Cycling and water sports therefore offer different ways to enjoy a trip: the route leads to Haag, while SUP is permitted at the pond. The areas by the natural floodplain forest offer a distinct landscape feature of their own. They lie on the edge of the sports center in Haag, are intended for improvement and are suitable as another stepping stone in the Ampertal biotope network. Here, the focus is on the planned ecological function of the areas.
