Discover Wolframs-Eschenbach
Accommodation in Wolframs-Eschenbach
Wolframs-Eschenbach can be explored through several distinct themes: its historic fortifications, the town’s history, literary trails and hiking options. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, these highlights can help you tailor your trip to your interests. The townscape combines architectural history with ways to explore the old town on foot or through audio experiences.
Town History and Fortifications
The moat, towers and walls of the fortifications were built mainly between 1332 and 1440. Their defensive strength is still clearly visible at the Upper Gate. The dates place the fortifications within a specific historical period, while the gate illustrates their defensive character through a single structure. This offers two different ways to encounter the town’s history and the visible form of its fortifications.
Since 2023, in addition to the Wolfram von Eschenbach Museum, there has also been a town museum presenting the history of Wolframs-Eschenbach. A model of the old town, showing its appearance at the end of 2000, is on the Rathaus’s second upper floor. The museum focuses on the town’s history, while the model provides a specific point of reference in time for the old town.
Literary Trails and Hiking Options
The certified accessible “Literary Trail Franconia” runs around the old town, is 2.2 km long and has been designed to be barrier-free. Its 15 information boards introduce authors from the Middle Ages to the present day who have written about Franconia. The trail combines a clearly specified distance with a literary theme.
Five Minnesinger hiking trails lead around Wolframs-Eschenbach. All five are well signposted and lead to interesting places. The Two-Town Trail runs between Wolframs-Eschenbach and Merkendorf. The routes therefore differ in their orientation: the Minnesinger hiking trails focus on the area around the town, while the Two-Town Trail names Merkendorf as the other town on the route.
Six self-guided audio tours are designed for visitors and local residents. They offer a way to explore the medieval town and its surroundings. While the Literary Trail presents its themes on information boards, the audio tours use an audio format.
Oldietown Festival 2027
The Oldietown Festival in Wolframs-Eschenbach is scheduled for 2027 and takes place every two years. The program includes rock ’n’ roll and rockabilly, a nostalgia market, numerous bands on seven stages in the old town, and classic cars. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the specific dates before finalizing your plans.
