Gallmersgarten brings together stone monuments, local history and nature. You can choose different themes for your stay: the menhirs and a worked stone, the life story of Christel Schmid, and the town’s location in Frankenhöhe Nature Park. The “Naturlehrpfad Tiefenbachtal” quiz trail adds a circular walk to the range of options in the area.

Menhirs and Stone Forms

The Gallmersgarten Statuten Menhir is considered probably the oldest of Bavaria’s seven menhirs. The municipality erected a replica near the site where it was found. Another stone attraction is the “Ötzi of Gallmersgarten”: the worked stone is 1.1 metres tall and is estimated to be 5,000 years old. A semicircular head, rough facial features and shoulders are visible. The two stone monuments offer different points of interest: the menhir is notable for its cautious classification among Bavaria’s seven menhirs, while the “Ötzi” is notable for its estimated date and visible form.

Christel Schmid and Her Birthplace

Christel Schmid, co-founder of the “Communität Casteller Ring”, is also part of the town’s history. Her birthplace is in Gallmersgarten. A commemorative stele in front of the house provides information about her life. This links her biography to a specific place and adds an informational element. Unlike the stone monuments, the focus here is on a person known by name.

Frankenhöhe Nature Park and Nature Forest Reserve

Gallmersgarten is located in Frankenhöhe Nature Park. The municipality’s landscape also includes the “Naturwaldreservat” FFH site, west of the village of Gallmersgarten. These details distinguish the nature park from a specifically named site with a precise location. Together, they give the nature theme both a regional and a local perspective.

Quiz Trail in the Tiefenbachtal

The “Naturlehrpfad Tiefenbachtal” quiz trail is a very easy, 1.9-kilometre circular walk. The main starting points are listed as Gallmersgarten and Steinach bei Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The route length and difficulty rating give you two concrete points of reference when choosing a walk. Check local conditions before setting out.

In the wider Neustadt A.D.Aisch-Bad Windsheim destination

Cultural attractions in the wider Neustadt A.D.Aisch-Bad Windsheim destination include places in Bad Windsheim and Neustadt an der Aisch. A tour of the Franconian Open Air Museum in Bad Windsheim is considered a journey through 700 years of everyday Franconian history. The Bauhofstadel there was built in 1441–1444; its late medieval roof structure spans an interior of about 360 square metres without supports.

In Neustadt an der Aisch, the Aischgründer Carp Museum explores the more than 1,250-year tradition of carp farming across ten rooms. The Aischgründer mirror carp is one of Neustadt an der Aisch’s local specialities and is served from September to April, including crispy fried or blue in broth.
