Explore Türkheim through its local history, Kneipp facilities and a named cycling tour. The castle and “Little Castle” represent different building periods; the Baroque castle garden adds to the historical picture. There are also several Kneipp facilities, a 27-hole golf course and the “Northern Türkheim” route. These themes can help guide your travel planning when choosing between architectural history, cycling and other activities.

Castle History and Garden

Between 1532 and 1535, Wolf Dietrich von Knöringen of the noble Schwabegg family built Türkheim Castle. The Baroque castle garden was created by Duke Maximilian Philipp as part of renovation work on the castle and is open to the public. Another precisely dated building is the so-called “Little Castle”: the wife of Duke Maximilian Philipp had it built in 1695. Two specific construction periods are therefore identified for the historical perspective: the castle, built between 1532 and 1535, and the Little Castle, built in 1695; the garden adds Baroque design to the picture.

Kneipp Facilities, Golf and Cycling

The Türkheim market municipality maintains Kneipp facilities in the castle park, on Herdgasse, in the Wertach floodplains on the forest path along the Wertach by the “Seven Springs,” and in Irsingen on Brunnenweg, west of the waterworks. These different location details make clear that the facilities are not all at a single site.

The golf course at Gut Ludwigsberg has 27 holes: an 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole par-3 course. The “Northern Türkheim” cycling tour runs from Türkheim via Unterrammingen, Tussenhausen and Ettringen to the Wertach cycle path and back to Türkheim. The tour details the sequence of places along the route; the golf course information gives both the total number of holes and their breakdown.

Nature experiences in Unterallgäu also offer a range of highlights. Benninger Ried is easy to explore on foot and has its own nature trail and observation platform. The 3.2-kilometre forest discovery trail in Bad Grönenbach offers the chance to learn about the forest ecosystem. In Buxheim, the forest discovery trail runs for 2.7 kilometres around Buxheimer Weiher and is designed to let visitors experience nature with all their senses. In the Bannwald forest in Ottobeuren, eleven stations lead along the forest discovery trail.

When visiting Mindelburg Castle, note the seasonal access: the castle courtyard is open year-round, while the keep, which has been converted into an observation tower, is open from April to October. As seasonal access arrangements may change, check current access before your visit.

The Culinary Mile in Bad Wörishofen takes place twice a year, in spring and autumn. Numerous food stalls serve freshly prepared dishes; the individual menus may vary. If you are considering the event when planning your trip, check the dates for your intended travel period.
