To find your bearings in Lutterloh, the landscape, trails and historic building offer different points of reference. The Weesen Brook flows through the village. The heathland on Schillohsberg lies between Lutterloh and Neulutterloh, south of the K17. The distinction is clear: the brook flows through Lutterloh, while the heathland lies between two named places and south of the K17. If you are choosing a destination based on specific activities, these different features can help you decide what matters most to you: heathland development, hiking or a restored historic building.

Schillohsberg Heath Nature Trail

The Schillohsberg Heath Nature Trail between Lutterloh and Unterlüß is a 2.2-kilometre circular trail with six stations. Visitors can learn about the development of the heathland from the Ice Age to the present day at these stations. The theme gives the route a sense of timescale: it focuses on changes to the heathland over a long period, rather than on just one stage of its development. For planning, the distance gives you a clear idea of the length of the loop, while the stations show what to look out for along the way. If you are choosing a walk for its theme, this combination of a circular trail and the development of the landscape is a distinctive feature.

The view from the Blue Eye

At the Blue Eye on Schillohsberg, you can look through a viewing window onto the heathland on Schillohsberg. A turntable and five different displays let you view different stages in the landscape’s development during various geological periods. Both features focus on the development of the heathland, but from different perspectives: the six stations along the circular trail trace the story from the Ice Age to the present day, while the Blue Eye focuses on views of the heathland and geological periods. This lets you choose between learning about the landscape’s development along a route and taking a closer look at different stages.

Hiking trails and tours

The Heidschnuckenweg quality hiking trail runs directly through Lutterloh. You can also start selected tours on the cycling and hiking trail network in the Südheide Nature Park from here. These are two different ways to plan: one is a specifically named hiking trail, while the other is a selection of possible tours. Check trail conditions before setting out, whether you plan to follow the Heidschnuckenweg or take one of the selected tours.

The staircase granary as another point of interest

The old staircase granary in Lutterloh has been restored. Picnic benches in front of the building make a suitable place to rest. Here, a restored building and a specific place to take a break come together. This provides a built heritage complement to Lutterloh’s nature and hiking attractions. The benches offer a place to pause in front of the granary if you want to include a rest stop in your plans as well as trails. For your travel plans, this is a different focus from the development of the heathland or choosing a hiking route.
