Lütz: Trails, Forests and Views
Accommodation in Lütz
The Lützbachtal circular trail starts at the church in Lütz. The Schiefergrubenweg offers sunny former vineyard slopes and cooler forest paths; other trails lead to viewpoints. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Lütz, these varied landscape impressions can help you plan excursions to suit your interests.
Hiking trails with varied scenery
The Lützbachtal circular trail first follows a paved path alongside the Lützbach. After about two kilometres, it crosses the stream; the return route follows a forest path. This means that a section alongside the stream alternates with a path through the forest. The stream crossing comes about two kilometres into the route and is a notable point on the circuit.
On the Schiefergrubenweg, sunny stretches of former vineyard land, known as the “Wingerts,” contrast with cooler forest paths. The trail connects this landscape with the history of slate mining and Lütz’s natural surroundings. Compared with the Lützbachtal circular trail, the focus here is on the contrast between open, sunny terrain and forest rather than on a stretch alongside the stream.
The viewpoints also offer different perspectives. A path from the Florianshütte leads to the Hauslay viewpoint, which overlooks the Lützbachtal. Another detour leads from the Schiefergrubenweg to the Otto-Andreas-Turm and back. This route is about 4.5 kilometres long and offers views towards the Hunsrück and Eifel. Hauslay thus opens up a view of the valley, while the detour to the tower brings the landscapes of two other regions into view.
More places to visit in the wider Cochem-Zell destination
In the wider Cochem-Zell destination, Cochem Imperial Castle is a major cultural and historical attraction. The medieval castle was restored and rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style by Louis Ravené in the 19th century, as part of the Romantic castle revival. The rooms open to visitors include the Knights’ Hall, dining room, hunting room and private chamber.
One natural attraction in the wider Cochem-Zell destination is the Jungferweiher. It is an important breeding and resting area for numerous bird species, especially during spring and autumn migration. These seasonal wildlife-watching opportunities offer a distinct focus for excursions alongside walks by the stream, through the forest and to viewpoints.
The Geierlay suspension bridge lies between Sosberg in the Cochem-Zell district and Mörsdorf in the Rhein-Hunsrück district. It is 360 metres long and crosses 100 metres above the Mörsdorfer Bachtal. Its position above the valley clearly distinguishes this regional attraction from the hiking trails along the Lützbach and the viewpoints near Lütz.
Many tourist attractions in Cochem-Zell are well connected to the public transport network. A visitor programme published in July 2025 lists suitable bus or train routes for each attraction. Before setting off, check the connection to your specific destination, as individual routes may change.
