Reidenhausen combines local history with the landscape of the northern Hunsrück. The branch church preserves furnishings from several centuries; Thon Hill is considered a former Celtic burial site and offers views across the Eifel, Hunsrück, and Koblenz Rhine Basin. Forests, valleys, and romantic streams complete the hiking scenery. Compare the location and amenities of a specific hotel based on its individual offer.

Branch Church and Thon Hill

The branch church in Reidenhausen is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was built in 1952 on the site of a chapel more than 300 years old. Its furnishings include a 300-year-old tuff altar from the workshops of Maria Laach, a 350-year-old stone Pietà, and a bell dating from approximately 100 years ago. The construction date and age of these items clearly mark distinct periods.

Thon Hill near Reidenhausen is considered a former Celtic burial site. From there, the view extends across the Eifel, Hunsrück, and Koblenz Rhine Basin. This makes the site different from the branch church: the focus here is on a hill considered a burial site and its expansive views, while the church is defined by its architectural and furnishing history.

Hunsrück Landscape and Excursions

Reidenhausen is located on a ridge in the northern Hunsrück. The Hunsrück heights, forests, valleys, and romantic streams form the hiking scenery. Together with the historical sites, they create a nature theme distinct from the history of the church and hill.

The Geierlay suspension bridge and the Burgherrenweg trail in Mastershausen are considered excursion destinations that can be reached on foot from Reidenhausen. Check current access conditions before setting out, as conditions and trail access may change.

More to Explore in the Broader Cochem-Zell Destination

The broader Cochem-Zell destination offers further cultural, nature, and excursion themes. The medieval Imperial Castle of Cochem was restored and rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style by Louis Ravené in the 19th century as part of the Romantic revival of castles. Visitors can explore rooms including the Knights’ Hall, dining hall, hunting room, and private chamber. Unlike the branch church in Reidenhausen, the Imperial Castle highlights the architectural history of Neo-Gothic reconstruction.

The Geierlay suspension bridge is 360 m long and stands 100 m above the Mörsdorf stream valley, between Sosberg in the Cochem-Zell district and Mörsdorf in the Rhine-Hunsrück district. Its length, height, and position above the valley convey the scale of this excursion destination.

The Jungferweiher in the broader Cochem-Zell destination is an important breeding and resting area for numerous bird species, particularly during spring and autumn migration. This seasonal aspect gives the nature theme a clear focus in time.

Rustic medieval feasts called “Gasterey nach Art der alten Rittersleut” are offered at the Imperial Castle of Cochem on Fridays and Saturdays. Check the dates before visiting, as the schedule may change.

Many tourist attractions in Cochem-Zell are well connected to the public transport network. The visitor program published in July 2025 lists the relevant bus or train line for many destinations. Check the connection before travelling, as routes may change.
