Siebeldingen combines viticulture and building history in a clearly defined thematic profile. The Geilweilerhof focuses on grapevine breeding and experimental work; the Siebeldinger Im Sonnenschein vineyard and the St. Quintinius Simultaneous Church are also part of the picture. This offers several ways to plan your stay: viticulture, local history and architecture can be explored at specific places and through activities.

Viticulture and research at the Geilweilerhof

The Geilweilerhof in Siebeldingen was endowed in 1926 to establish a grapevine breeding and experimental station. At the Geilweilerhof, the Julius Kühn Institute breeds new grape varieties and operates a grapevine gene bank, experimental plots and experimental wine cellars. This brings together a clearly dated history and specific work related to grapevine breeding at one location. Visitors can view the grounds of the Geilweilerhof during the wine shop’s opening hours, including the garden and pavilion. Visits are limited to these opening hours. Please check the wine shop’s hours in advance.

The Siebeldinger Im Sonnenschein vineyard

The Siebeldinger Im Sonnenschein vineyard covers 100 hectares on the southern slopes of the Queichtal valley. Its soils include shell limestone, sand, sandstone, gravel and loam; Pinot varieties and Riesling grow there. The annual Culinary Vineyard Hike is associated with the vineyard. If you would like to include this event in your travel plans, check the dates in advance.

St. Quintinius Simultaneous Church

The St. Quintinius Simultaneous Church is a landmark of Siebeldingen and is among the town’s cultural monuments. The Early Gothic church was built around 1300; its unusually twisted tower is 30 metres high. The church is open on Sundays. As opening information may change, please check before your visit.

Guided tours and wine tastings

Guided tours of Siebeldingen and Birkweiler cover viticulture, local history and the history of the Geilweilerhof. They are subject to availability. A guided vineyard experience may include a wine tasting in the vineyard; in bad weather, a winery is planned as an alternative. The format and availability may change. Please check in advance whether the tour will take place in the form you want.

More themes in the Southern Wine Route

The wider Southern Wine Route destination offers other distinct cultural and hiking themes. Landeck Castle has a 25-metre-high platform with views across the Vorderpfalz towards the Odenwald and Black Forest; visibility depends on the weather. Replicas of the Imperial Regalia are on display at Trifels Imperial Castle. The examples offer different highlights: at Landeck, the focus is on the view; at Trifels, on the exhibition of the replicas.

Two trails in the wider destination can also be distinguished by their features. The TrifelsErlebnisWeg is 3.6 kilometres long, designated as a one-way route, and has 18 play and information stations. The Keschde-Erlebnisweg is a 6.1-kilometre circular route around the Föhrlenberg that is suitable for pushchairs and focuses on the Palatinate chestnut. Seasonal conditions may affect use of the circular route. Length, route type and theme offer concrete points of comparison when you want to assess different hiking options in the Southern Wine Route.
