Groß Offenseth-Aspern: Rose Fields, Gut Aspern and Polo
Accommodation in Groß Offenseth-Aspern
Groß Offenseth-Aspern has a rural character, combining agriculture, extensive rose fields and large areas of woodland. Two notable features are the Kordes Rose School and Gut Aspern, with its history and focus on equestrian sports. For planning your trip, it is also worth exploring additional destinations in the wider Pinneberg area.
Rose-Growing Tradition and Local Character
The rose on the municipal coat of arms symbolizes the Kordes Rose School. Its fields extend across large parts of the municipality and shape the landscape. The rose theme is reflected in two ways: as a symbol of local identity and as part of the area's character. Agriculture also shapes the municipality; Groß Offenseth-Aspern is also considered green and richly wooded. If you are looking for a rural destination, the rose fields, agriculture and woodland give you a clear impression of what makes the area distinctive.
Gut Aspern: History and Polo
The history of Gut Aspern dates back to the 16th century. After it was purchased in 2005, the estate was extensively renovated and developed into a modern center for equestrian sports in Germany. A long history and a later focus on equestrian sports coexist here: two distinct aspects to bear in mind when planning your trip.
Gut Aspern has two full-size polo fields. The Polo Academy offers opportunities to try polo or learn it professionally. These options range from a first introduction to the sport to professional instruction. Before your trip, check whether your preferred option is available on your dates.
Nature in the Pinneberg Area
Himmelmoor is located in the Pinneberg area and offers a natural contrast to its cultural-landscape and sporting attractions. It covers around 600 hectares and is one of the largest raised bogs in Schleswig-Holstein. After peat extraction ended in 2018, the bog was designated a nature reserve in 2022. Its diverse landscape includes remnants of raised bog, bog woodlands, fen areas, wet meadows, species-rich grassland, standing water and former peat extraction sites.
Six elevated viewpoints offer views across the bog. A former peat railway provides a glimpse of Himmelmoor from Easter to October; check its seasonal operating schedule before your trip. Existing walking and riding trails have also been preserved. This lets you explore different aspects of the area: views across the bog landscape, the seasonal perspective offered by the former peat railway, and the preserved trails.
Pinneberg: Parks and Culture
Pinneberg itself offers other distinct attractions. Pinneberger Fahlt is a wooded area and local recreation area in Pinneberg municipal forest, used for walking, jogging and sports activities. Drosteipark is located directly behind Pinneberg city center and has walking paths and opportunities for sports and exercise. The two parks therefore offer different ways to spend time outdoors and be physically active.
For culture, the Drostei is a destination in its own right: it is the cultural center of Pinneberg district and hosts exhibitions, concerts and literary events. The Tree Nursery Museum focuses on the tree nursery industry and is the only museum in the German-speaking world devoted to this subject. Pinneberg's tree park offers another way to explore the history of trees, with its 26 “Trees of the Year.” The idea originated as part of the International Garden Show igs Hamburg 2013, in the Pinneberger Baumschulland exhibition area.
