Heist: Moor, Forest and Airfield
Accommodation in Heist
Heist lies between the Elbe marshes and the Geest. Agriculture and tree nurseries shape the local landscape; moorland, forest and an airfield offer further concrete points of reference for planning your trip.
Moorland between the Marshes and the Geest
The Tävsmoor/Haselauer Moor nature reserve lies between Appen and Heist, south of Uetersen airfield. The southern part of Haselauer Moor drains into the Elbe marshes via the Holmau, also known as the Happelbach. This places Heist’s location between the marshes and the Geest alongside the moor’s specific connection to Appen, Heist and the Elbe marshes.
Forest Walks and the Airfield
Walks are associated with Heistmer Forest. The municipality also promotes sightseeing flights from the local airfield, offering views towards the nearby marshes and the Elbe. This presents time in the forest and views from the air as two different ways to experience the landscape.
Motor-flying and gliding clubs, flight schools, charter companies and private aircraft owners are based at Uetersen/Heist airfield. You can visit the airfield by plane, car, bicycle or on foot. Outside the town, an Ochsenweg information board for Heist stands at the intersection of Haseldorfer StraĂźe and Wischweg.
Heist High Ropes Course
Heist High Ropes Course is a woodland climbing park with suspended obstacles several metres above the ground. The courses run at different heights; lower sections are also available if you prefer an experience with less emphasis on heights. The range of heights gives you a specific point to consider when deciding how much height you want to be part of the experience.
Getting to the High Ropes Course
Bus 489 connects Wedel, Heist, Uetersen and Elmshorn, providing access to the high ropes course. If travelling by bus, use the Heist/Rosentwiete stop; from there, the walk is approximately 200 metres towards the B 431. Check the current timetable and local signs before setting out. If you cycle from the town to the high ropes course, follow the directions to Uetersen/Heist airfield; check the local signs along the way here, too.
