Kummerfeld is also connected to the Hamburg metropolitan region via the Hamburg Transport Association (HVV). Historical traces, sports and regional context offer different starting points for planning your stay.

Local History in Names and Traces

The first documented mention of Kummerfeld dates from around 1320. It appears in the Latin property register of the Hamburg Cathedral Chapter, known as the “Kleine Kopialbuch” (Little Cartulary). Earlier forms of the place name have also been recorded: Cummervelde and Kummeruelde were interpreted as meaning “poor land.” Another historical trace is found in the field names Öhlmöhlenwisch and Kopperede; they point to a former watermill on the Bilsbek. Traces of old building sites have also been found in the Kummerfelder Wohld. These different clues sit alongside one another: the early written mention, the interpretation of the place name, field names referring to a mill, and structural traces in the Wohld. A more recent, precisely dated milestone is the first Kummerfeld Culture Festival, held in Kummerfeld in 2018.

Sports and Leisure at Kummerfelder SV

Kummerfelder SV’s sports center is located on Ossenpadd and has two soccer fields. The tennis facility includes five outdoor red clay courts and a spectator terrace. The tennis courts are available seasonally; check their availability before use. The club’s facilities also include a beach volleyball court and a basketball hoop. There are also green spaces, small lakes, streams and a children’s playground. The facilities listed range from soccer and tennis to beach volleyball and basketball; green spaces and bodies of water are also part of the leisure offering.
