Moorrege can be explored through a variety of themes: the Bee Museum is dedicated to beekeeping, Düneck Castle combines architectural and garden culture, and the Oberglinde natural swimming lake offers a natural swimming experience. Other attractions include St. Michael’s Church and the Klevendeich swing bridge. If you are planning a stay, these places may appeal to different interests; however, their visiting arrangements vary.

Bees, Beekeeping and Düneck Castle

The Moorrege Bee Museum provides information about bees, colonies and beekeeping. The exhibition includes a glass observation hive and beekeeping tools. It is considered Schleswig-Holstein’s only bee museum. A clearly defined subject takes centre stage here: the world of bees and the work involved in keeping them.

Düneck Castle is another focus of the town’s history. The building was constructed in 1871. The mansion “Schloß Düneck” at Klinkerstraße 28 in Moorrege is classified as a historic residential building in a heritage listing dated 1 January 2026. Its architecture combines Château style, Victorian and Neo-Grec elements with North German brickwork. The design is therefore shaped by several styles rather than following just one architectural style.

The castle is surrounded by a 3.6-hectare park with wildlife, a tea house, an orangery and a fishpond. The rooms on the piano nobile are also noteworthy: they include a gallery hall with a Steinway concert grand, a library and a conservatory. Access to the interior depends on the public programme. Düneck Castle is primarily privately owned, but occasionally opens to the public as an open house. Events previously held there include celebrations, park picnics, music and art, as well as culinary events, tea gatherings and discussion groups. The programme may change, so check in advance whether a visit is possible.

St. Michael’s Church and Local History

St. Michael’s is a modern church dating from the 1960s. Inside are a figure of the Archangel Michael and a stained-glass window depicting the twelve gates of Jerusalem. Visits outside regular service times are possible if local staff are available. Whether you can visit therefore depends not only on service times but also on whether staff are on site.

The local religious history includes the self-governing Moorrege-Heist congregation, founded in Moorrege in 1954. The town is also linked to an older history of transport and trade: Moorrege lies on an old trade and cattle-driving route. Both aspects give the town a historical background distinct from the architecture of Düneck Castle.

Oberglinde Natural Swimming Lake: Outdoor Swimming

The Oberglinde natural swimming lake is a former gravel pit lake in the Oberglinde district, surrounded by greenery. The site offers a natural swimming experience, and the water quality is checked regularly. Children can paddle and learn to swim along the gently sloping shore. There is also a beach volleyball court. Admission is free. Water quality, operating conditions and admission arrangements may change, so it is advisable to check the latest information before your visit.

Getting There and the History of Engineering

Bus route 6663 runs between Uetersen-Buttermarkt and Pinneberg station, stopping at Moorrege, Oberglinde. From there, the natural swimming lake is about a five-minute walk away. Bus routes and stops may change, so check the current service before travelling.

The Klevendeich swing bridge spans the Pinnau between Neuendeich and Moorrege-Klevendeich. Built in 1887, this historic engineering structure is one of Europe’s oldest surviving swing bridges. One of its steel truss spans can be turned to allow ships to pass. Its position between the two towns and its movable section are among the structure’s defining features.
