Preore: Hiking Routes and Local History
Accommodation in Preore
The Giro della Bastia di Baticler, the Senter da l'acqua and the Ferrata Art-pinistica reveal different facets of Preore. The history of the church, the Campanile di Vigo and the Regola di Spinale e Manez also shape the character of the town. The routes offer various points of reference for your stay, from an approximate tour duration to sound stations and a clearly specified start and end point.
Hiking Routes and Trails
The Giro della Bastia di Baticler starts at the Sesena sports centre. From there, the route follows the cycle path to Preore and continues through Montagne, the village of Niere and Provaiolo to the ruins of the Bastia del Baticler on the mountain slopes, which may date back to Roman times. The tour is moderately difficult and takes about half a day. The duration provides a time frame, while the moderate difficulty rating adds an indication of the level of challenge.
The Senter da l'acqua offers a different focus. It starts in Vigo di Ragoli behind the historic Casa Rusca and ends in Preore at the Capitello di San Giovanni Nepomuceno. There are sound stations at Casa Rusca, Doccia delle Riziere, Oselera, Rio Manez and Buston. The Senter highlights its route and sound points, while the Giro can also be assessed by its approximate duration and difficulty level.
The Ferrata Art-pinistica in Preore runs along the easier rock ledges and walls of the Croz de le Niere climbing wall. Its favourable aspect makes it usable for much of the year. Check local conditions before setting out. The Parco al Poz green space offers a different setting: it is in Preore and is suitable for relaxing.
The Church and Community History
The first church in Preore was built in 1321 in a different location and was destroyed by a flood of the Sarca in 1772. The present-day church is dedicated to Santa Maria Maddalena. The two dates mark different stages in the church's history: the earlier building at another location and its destruction by the flood.
The Campanile di Vigo also has a local history beyond its function as a bell tower: public assemblies of the ComunitĂ di Preore were held there. Together with Montagne and Ragoli, Preore is part of the Regola di Spinale e Manez. This community was established in 1377 and manages shared assets for social purposes.
The first known statute of Manez was also written in 1377. BafĂ l, in the Preore area, was a place where the public rule and the council of the Monte di Manez were held. The year 1377 therefore marks different aspects of community life: the establishment of the Regola and the first known statute of Manez. BafĂ l adds a named meeting place to this history.
Access to Val Manez
Access to Val Manez runs from Preore through Cort, Larzana and Binio. Historically, these places were hamlets of the municipality of Montagne; today they belong to Tre Ville. The route thus also illustrates the change from their former to their current municipal affiliation. Along with the trails around Preore, this route offers another view of the local landscape and history.
