In Oploo, mill history, local history and seasonal culture are distinct themes. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can first consider which of them matter for your trip: the mills, a theater program or a route linked to agriculture and spelt. The individual sites and routes each have a different focus.

Mills and local history

“De Korenbloem” is a stationary post mill dating from 1800. Oploo’s watermill has a present-day building dating from 1725 and operated as an oil mill until the beginning of the 20th century. In the case of the watermill, the two dates refer to different things: 1725 refers to the present-day building, while the beginning of the 20th century marks the end of its operation as an oil mill.

The Sint-Matthiaskerk is also part of the local history: it replaced a medieval chapel. The mills and the church therefore represent different historical themes that you can take into account when planning your stay.

Theater and Avonturenpark

The open-air theater “De Speultuin” in Avonturenpark has space for more than 300 visitors. Each season, it offers a varied program for young and old. If you want to plan your trip around a particular performance, check the program information for that season.

Avonturenpark also has a play area made from natural materials. It includes a wind-and-water mill, stainless-steel pumps and solar-powered equipment. As the facilities may change, check the latest information about the play area before your visit. The Parkboerderij provides space for workshops and guided tours.

Routes and refreshments

The Molenroute Oploo is 13.4 kilometers long. It starts at the parking lot next to Koffiehuus Ons Moe in Oploo, between junctions 55 and 56, and passes the mills and Avonturenpark. Its length, starting point and route provide practical details for planning your trip.

The Graancirkel Route passes through grain fields and offers information about traditional agriculture and the spelt grain cycle. This is a different thematic focus from the Molenroute: the Graancirkel Route focuses on agriculture and spelt, while the Molenroute focuses on the mills and the route past Avonturenpark. If you are choosing between the two routes, you can use this distinction to help you decide.

Koffiehuus Ons Moe is right next to the Molenroute’s starting parking lot. It serves coffee and homemade apple pie, and has an outdoor garden and a terrace. It is a stopping place for walkers, cyclists and tourists. If you plan to visit, check the current opening hours before your trip.
