Rąbkowa: Local History and the Łososińska Route
Accommodation in Rąbkowa
Local History in the Center
Rąbkowa can be explored through two distinct points of reference: the chapel in the village center and the Łososińska Route, which runs through the village and to points of interest in the surrounding area. If you are planning a stay, this distinction helps you consider the village’s history and the route separately.
In the center of Rąbkowa stands a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Częstochowa. Local residents built it in less than six months. The village’s origins are dated to the years 1400 to 1440. Its earlier names were first Romakowa and later Robkowa. The sequence of names and the dating provide a timeframe for the village’s history; the chapel is a tangible landmark in the present-day village center.
The Łososińska Route and Its Views
The Łososińska Route is about 28 kilometers long. It begins at a crossroads in Kąty, passes through Michalczowa toward Łososina Dolna, and runs alongside the airfield of Aeroklub Podhalański before reaching the municipal center. Beyond the bridge over the Łososinka, it follows the river’s right bank, passing the KS “Łosoś” stadium, and climbs to a hill above Tabaszowa. The individual kilometer markers place points of interest along this longer route.
At the 7.7-kilometer mark, the trail near Rąbkowa climbs to a 470-meter-high hill above Tabaszowa. From there, views extend over Jezioro Rożnowskie, Gródek nad Dunajcem, the Beskid Sądecki, the Beskid Wyspowy, and the Pogórze. The hill is therefore a viewpoint near Rąbkowa, while the chapel is in the village center. These two places offer different points of reference if you are interested in local history or views across the landscape.
More Stops Along the Route
At the 10.1-kilometer mark, a blue hiking trail leads to Rożnów. There, you can take a break or descend toward the church in Tabaszowa, visible in the distance. At kilometer 13, the route reaches Znamirowice; the YC PTTK “Beskid” water station is about 200 meters from the route.
On the way toward Just, the route passes a historic church at an elevation of 486 meters; there are views along the way. Another viewpoint can be found from the hamlet of Szczołby, overlooking the Łososina Valley. These places are in the wider area around the destination and are distinct from the stops in Rąbkowa. In Rąbkowa itself, at the 15.4-kilometer mark, the route turns left at a crossroads toward Just and then continues together with a blue hiking trail.
For planning your trip, it is useful to distinguish between the total length and the route markers: about 28 kilometers refers to the route as a whole; 7.7, 10.1, 13, and 15.4 kilometers mark individual stops. This lets you match named places such as Rąbkowa, Tabaszowa, and Znamirowice to the relevant section. If you are looking for hotels for a stay in Rąbkowa, the village center with its chapel and the separately located points along the route can help you choose what to visit based on your interests.
