Warta: Discover the Monastery, Church and Trails
Accommodation in Warta
Warta combines monastic and church history with hiking and cycling trails, as well as activities on the water. If you are looking for a hotel in Warta, first consider whether you want to focus your stay mainly on historic buildings in the town, a route, or waterside destinations in the municipality. This will help you tailor your search to your travel interests without treating destinations in Warta and the wider municipality as one and the same.
Monastic and Church History
The first Bernardine monastery and the first Bernardine church in Warta were founded in 1467. Between 1482 and 1497, a new masonry monastery complex in Gothic style was built. The complex is currently used by members of the religious order and is open year-round. Visits are possible by prior arrangement by phone or between religious services. Confirm the visiting arrangements in advance.
St. Nicholas Parish Church is located in the center of Warta, near the southwest corner of the market square. It was built around 1340 and is a Gothic church; its interior was remodeled in the 17th century. The construction date and the later alteration of the interior mark different stages in its history. Together with the founding and later construction of the Bernardine complex, they provide an overview of several centuries of religious architecture in Warta.
The Museum of the Town and the Warta River also organizes workshops and cultural events. This complements the historical themes with a current cultural program. If you would like to combine a visit with an event, check the schedule before your trip.
Compare Hiking and Cycling Trails by Destination
The green “Władysław Reymont” hiking trail runs via Duszniki to Warta’s market square. A blue hiking trail starts at the museum and continues to the bridge over the Warta River. These named destinations provide a concrete guide if you want to choose hiking trails by their route rather than just by their color.
For cycling, the red “Łódź Cycling Route” runs from Głaniszew to Warta and continues towards Pierzchnia Góra. It is also designated as an international west–east cycling route. The options described therefore differ clearly: the hiking trails lead to points in Warta, while the cycling route is part of a longer connection. No journey times are provided, so choose based on the destinations and the route you have planned.
Views and Routes on the Water
From Górka Cmentarna, you can enjoy a view of the town of Warta and the river valley. The Jeziorsko Reservoir is also located near Warta, between Skęczniew and Warta, on the border between the Łódź and Greater Poland voivodeships. The view from Górka and the reservoir’s location represent different landscape features: one offers a view of the town and river valley, while the other describes a larger area on the voivodeship border.
Two canoeing stages are listed on the Warta River: 17 kilometers from Sieradz to Warta, followed by a further 21 kilometers to Księże Młyny. The second stage is therefore four kilometers longer.
In Warta, “Kąpielisko przy ul. płk. M.A. Tarnowskiego” has a 50-meter-long shoreline. The bathing site includes a designated bathing area in the water, as well as a beach area for recreation and sports. Check its seasonal availability again for the time of your trip. The municipality of Warta also has a beach area, pedal boats, and two water-ski lifts in Ostrów Warcki. These destinations are within the municipality and should therefore be distinguished from the places described in the town of Warta.
