Accommodation in Piaseczno
Piaseczno offers concrete cultural and landscape points of interest to help you plan your stay: St. Anne’s Church, the town hall, a sculpture trail and the city park. Its attractions range from religious art and Neoclassical architecture to nature in the urban landscape. The Piaseczyńsko-Grójecka Narrow-Gauge Railway and the Piaseczyński Fair are also local points of interest.
St. Anne’s Church: Building history and art
The brick-built St. Anne’s Church in Piaseczno was erected around 1550. Fragments of wall paintings from 1555 depicting the Passion of Christ have been preserved inside. Three Late Gothic portals are among the building’s other notable features. Particularly remarkable is the portal in the presbytery, with its wrought-iron lattice doors. The Chapel of the Holy Cross contains a 16th-century crucifix that came from an earlier rood screen. A rood screen traditionally separated the choir from the rest of the church. The church thus offers different aspects of religious art to explore, including its architectural history, paintings and historic furnishings.
Market Square and town hall
Around the market square, now Plac Piłsudskiego, a historic urban layout dating back to the town’s founding has been preserved. The town hall was built in 1823 to a design by Hilary Szpilowski, in the Neoclassical style and from plastered brick. A clock was added to its tower in 1969 to mark the 540th anniversary of the granting of town rights. The church and town hall point to different historical periods: St. Anne’s Church was built around 1550, while the town hall dates from the 19th century. If you are interested in urban history, Piaseczno offers several specific buildings and places to explore, each in its own right.
Józef Wilkoń Sculpture Trail
A more recent artistic attraction, the Józef Wilkoń Sculpture Trail was created in 2018. It consists of casts of sculptures and a mural on the wall of Przystanek Muzyki. Locations featuring sculptures include the Piaseczno Market Square, Zakątek Kultury, Skwer Kisiela and the city park. The trail thus brings together different forms of art and locations across the urban landscape; it offers a different focus from the historic architecture and religious artworks of St. Anne’s Church. When planning your visit, you can consider these artistic stops as a separate theme alongside the historic sights.
City park and nature
Piaseczno’s city park is entirely protected as a historic monument. Its historic character was preserved during its modernization. The pond is another distinctive feature of the park: it provides a habitat for several bird species. Here, the history of the site and its role in nature come together. If you would also like to include natural attractions in your trip, the pond is a specific local point of interest.
Narrow-gauge railway and special occasions
The Piaseczyńsko-Grójecka Narrow-Gauge Railway has been in operation for more than 100 years. Its route runs from Piaseczno via Tarczyn and back to Piaseczno. Trains can be booked for birthdays, company gatherings and conferences. If a train ride is part of your plans, check the current timetable in advance. The railway thus combines a long operating history with a specific option for special events, but you should not assume a particular timetable when planning your trip.
Piaseczyński Fair
The Piaseczyński Fair is an annual open-air event in Piaseczno that draws on the town’s historic tradition of large fairs. Since 2005, it has been held in September in the city park, where traditional dishes are offered at the stalls. If the fair is relevant to your stay, check the current event dates before travelling, as the date may change. This will help you schedule a planned visit around the event without assuming that the September date is fixed.
