Colonnowska offers something for different travel interests: kayaking on two routes, paths for cyclists, and traces of the region’s smelting history. On the water, the routes differ in length, approximate journey time, and obstacles; on land, the focus is on paths with different courses. When looking for a hotel in Colonnowska, it helps to first decide what matters most to you: kayaking, cycling, or regional history.

Kayak Trips: Forest Route or Weirs

The 12 km kayak route from Zawadzkie to Kolonowskie runs entirely through woodland and takes about 4.5 to 5 hours. If you want to focus on a continuous forest route while paddling, this route fits that preference exactly. The time range provides an approximate guide to the journey. Check local conditions before setting out.

The route from Kolonowskie to Ozimek is longer, at 15 km. It is considered easy and pleasant, but has numerous weirs where you will need to carry the kayaks around them. The trip takes about 3.5 to 4 hours; obstacles and water conditions may vary. In direct comparison, the longer of the two routes is listed with a shorter estimated journey time. The information highlights different trade-offs: the 12 km route runs entirely through woodland, while the longer route is considered easy and pleasant but includes portages. Before planning, compare the route length, approximate time, and route features; treat the times as a guide.

Walking Trails and Cycling Routes

The yellow trail 27Y runs between Kolonowskie and Bziniczka. The blue trail 163N starts and ends in Kolonowskie. Its route passes through Staniszcze Małe, Staniszcze Wielkie, Kąty, the edge of Zawadzkie, Stawy Pluderskie, Regolowiec, and Brzyniczka.

For a cycling trip, the trail descriptions differ considerably: 27Y connects Kolonowskie and Bziniczka, while 163N starts and ends in Kolonowskie and lists other places along its route. This lets you first choose whether you want a trail between two named places or one that starts and ends in Kolonowskie. Check the current local signage before relying on the trail numbers.

Smelting History and Local History

At Filip Colonna’s initiative, a blast furnace was built on the Bziniczka in 1780. The Bziniczka is a right-bank tributary of the Mała Panew. A settlement with 24 residential houses for officials and workers quickly grew around the furnace. In 1797, the settlement was named Colonnowska after its patron and founder. This means that 17 years elapsed between the construction of the blast furnace and the naming of the settlement; the story also includes the rapid construction of homes for the groups who lived there at the time.

At Rogolowiec, remains of wooden weirs and dams from the time of the smelting site there have been preserved along the Bziniczka. The region’s industrial heritage thus includes not only the history of the blast furnace and the founding of the settlement, but also structural remains.

The Kolonowskie Regional History Chamber is located on the “Morawsko-polskie ścieżki tradycji i poznania” (Moravian-Polish Paths of Tradition and Discovery) themed trail, created by the “Kraina Dinozaurów” Local Action Group. The themed trail offers another point of interest for anyone interested in regional history. If you are planning a visit to the chamber, check in advance whether it is open.
