Polnica – Lake, Church History and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Polnica
Polnica offers several specific themes to help you plan your trip: Lake Gostudno, the Church of the Holy Trinity and the former St. Joseph’s Church, as well as two cycling routes that pass through Polnica.
Lake Gostudno and finding your way along the shore
Lake Gostudno covers 46.38 hectares and is fed by the Czerwonka. On the eastern shore, there is a car park, a beach, a bathing jetty and a recreation area. The lake is about one kilometre from Polnica and is best reached via unpaved roads from Polnica or Polniczka. As road conditions may change, check them before setting out. This means the lakeside facilities and the route there can be considered as two separate points when planning: the facilities are on the eastern shore, while access is via unpaved roads.
Churches and architectural history
The Church of the Holy Trinity in Polnica was built in 1780–1781 and is the oldest surviving church in the municipality of Człuchów. Its furnishings include an 18th-century altar with sculptures of Saint Joseph and Saint John of Nepomuk. Wall paintings depicting King David and Saint Stanislaus, the bishop, survive on the nave vault. The church also has 18th-century Rococo furnishings and a pulpit supported by an angel figure. The construction date, altar figures, paintings and pulpit offer different insights into the building’s preserved furnishings.
Another chapter in the local church history is the former Evangelical St. Joseph’s Church, built in 1912. Its single-nave interior is richly decorated with paintings and has two galleries. The described features of the two churches thus differ: at the Church of the Holy Trinity, the focus includes the altar, vault paintings and pulpit, while at St. Joseph’s it is the decoration of the single-nave interior and its galleries.
Two cycling routes through Polnica
Route No. 5 of Człuchów County, “Chrobotkowa,” is 20.3 kilometres long and runs through Przechlewo, Imielno, Płaszczyca, Polnica and Człuchów. Route No. 9, “Niedzielna,” is 36.8 kilometres long and runs from Człuchów via Polnica, Czarnoszyce, Charzykowy, Nieżywięć and Krzyżanki, returning to Człuchów. Both routes therefore pass through Polnica, but differ considerably in their stated length and course. Chrobotkowa is the shorter of the two; Niedzielna is 16.5 kilometres longer. Before setting out on Niedzielna, check the current signage and road surfaces.
