Lublewo Gdanskie: Church, Local History and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Lublewo Gdanskie
If you are looking for a hotel in Lublewo Gdanskie, the character of the place may also influence your decision. Here, a church with architectural elements from different centuries, protected historic green spaces and cemetery features, and two signposted cycling routes come together. For a trip focused on local history or cycling, these themes offer specific points of interest.
NMP KrĂłlowej Polski Church and its Building History
NMP KrĂłlowej Polski Church is an east-facing brick church in the Gothic-Baroque style; its tower is made of wood and clad with boards. The walls of the chancel date from the second half of the 14th century. The church was remodelled in 1684. The wooden Baroque music gallery dates from 1782: its balustrade is made up of panels and rests on two chamfered posts. A gallery is a raised platform in a church, and the balustrade forms its railing; chamfered posts have bevelled edges. This makes it possible to distinguish the details of the fittings from the older walls. The sequence from the medieval chancel masonry through the remodelling to the gallery conveys several layers of history within a single church building.
Historic Green Spaces and Cemetery
The historic design of the settlement pattern is also part of the village’s cultural heritage. The 2020 local spatial development plan provides for the protection, preservation and maintenance of the historically designed greenery within the protected heritage zone of Lublewo Gdanskie’s rural settlement pattern. At the Catholic parish cemetery, the former Protestant cemetery, the historic layout of the avenues and the existing division into burial plots are protected. These features differ from the church architecture: one concerns designed greenery within the settlement pattern, while the other concerns the layout of paths and the organisation of a cemetery. Thus, the village’s cultural and historical character encompasses not only the church but also designed outdoor spaces and the layout of a cemetery.
Landscape and Early Settlement
Part of the planned area of Lublewo Gdanskie lies within the Dolina Raduni Landscape Protection Area. In addition, an open settlement in Lublewo Gdanskie has been dated to the Early Iron Age. This settlement dating provides a much earlier historical reference than the chancel walls from the second half of the 14th century and the gallery from 1782. Archaeological and architectural traces from widely separated periods therefore coexist.
Two Signposted Cycling Routes
Two signposted routes pass through Lublewo Gdanskie for cyclists. The Kashubian-Żuławy Cycling Route is 55.41 kilometres long and marked in blue; Wolność jest w Naturze is 12.92 kilometres long and marked in red. The first route is 42.49 kilometres longer than the second: the blue cycling route is just over four times as long as the red one. The routes therefore differ considerably in length. The distances refer to the routes as a whole, not only to the sections passing through the village. Length and colour marking give you two specific criteria for distinguishing between the routes.
