Waćmerek is a locality in Tczew, in the Pomeranian Voivodeship of Poland, at an elevation of 65 metres. For planning your trip, the main themes are a green long-distance trail, a protected hillfort site and a historically shaped lake landscape. Information about the trail, terrain and water can help you choose the focus of your stay: planning a longer route, visiting a cultural and historical site, or enjoying the landscape by the water.

Trail and cycling

The green Szlak Ziemi Tczewskiej im. Romana Klima is 73.7 kilometres long and runs from Tczew to Smętowo Graniczne. At kilometre 15.3, it reaches Waćmerek on Starogardzka Street. Almost its entire length is suitable for cycling tourism. The total length and the kilometre marker offer two different points of reference: one for the route as a whole and one for its course through Waćmerek.

For Grodzisko Waćmierek, the route description gives another specific reference point: from the car park, the path climbs uphill; after 500 metres, you reach the hillfort site. You can therefore consider the long stretch of the green trail and the short walk from the car park as separate parts of your plan.

Grodzisko Waćmierek and local history

Grodzisko Waćmierek is protected in both the register of monuments and the inventory of monuments. It is considered a well-preserved lowland hillfort site on a peninsula in the former Jezioro Gniszewskie. Its position on a peninsula is part of the character of this historic terrain; its designation as a hillfort site gives it a clear cultural and historical context.

Another historical trace in the landscape concerns Jezioro Waćmierek: a former causeway once divided the lake and ran from the former estate to a hill. Remains of the former estate owners’ cemetery have survived on the hill to this day; notable Douglas firs also grow there. The former causeway and the surviving cemetery remains point to different layers of history in this landscape.

Lake and landscape

Jezioro Waćmierek covers five hectares. The list of quiet zones for inland waters in Tczew County, published in August 2024 and updated in December 2024, includes the lake. These zones are intended to ensure suitable acoustic conditions in recreational and leisure areas. If you are planning activities by the water, check the designation again beforehand.

The manor park in Waćmierek also shapes the landscape: one part stands out for its trees against the surrounding fallow land, shrubs and naturally growing trees. The Grodzisko is on the peninsula in the former Jezioro Gniszewskie; the size and entry in the quiet-zone category, by contrast, refer to Jezioro Waćmierek.
