Choosing Sarnów as a destination means discovering a preserved village layout, traces of historic buildings and settlement, and a regional cycling route. The blue Jeziora Zagłębia cycling route follows a circular course, while the village’s history can be explored through its streets, church and stops along the historic walking trail. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on Sarnów’s history or see the village as part of a cycling tour.

Village Layout and Brick Road

Sarnów has a rare multi-street village layout, with an oval-shaped centre that has been preserved to this day. The layout offers a concrete starting point for exploring the village’s history: the story is not just about individual buildings, but also about the village’s traditional spatial arrangement. In 1933, Główna Street was paved with bricks from the Gródków brickworks. Nearby, a preserved section of brick road is also one of the few monuments to interwar technical culture. The road in Sarnów is associated with a specific year of construction and the origin of its bricks, while the preserved section nearby represents interwar technical culture.

Church, Estate History and Historic Stops

The Church of the Good Shepherd parish in Sarnów was consecrated by Bishop Adam Śmigielski on 23 October 1994. The exact date places the consecration in the village’s history. Another chapter begins in 1936, when the Będzin local government council purchased the former estate of the Błeszyński noble family. The Służebniczki Sisters took over the estate and turned the manor house into an orphanage. The square in front of the Dom Dziecka im. św. Dominika Savio is also a named stop on the historic walking trail through Sarnów. It adds another village landmark to the church and estate history.

The Jeziora Zagłębia Cycling Route

The marked blue Jeziora Zagłębia cycling route is 35 kilometres long. It starts at Pogoria IV in Dąbrowa Górnicza and follows a circular route via Rogoźnik to Jezioro Przeczyckie. Between Preczów and Sarnów, it runs along field tracks. Overall, the route mainly uses paved public roads, making the field-track section a specific point of difference in the route description. The full route and this section answer different planning questions: the 35 kilometres and circular course describe the tour as a whole, while the field-track surface matters between Preczów and Sarnów. The route was added to the regional cycling map in 2024. As surfaces can change, check the route before setting off.

Music and Community Spaces

The vocal ensemble “Zagłębianki” was founded in Sarnów in 1976 and is the oldest folk ensemble in the municipality of Psary. Its local repertoire includes songs such as “Jestem Sarnowianka” and “Pod sarnowskim lasem.” The titles connect the music to Sarnów, while the ensemble’s founding history also places it within the municipality’s cultural history. Another local landmark is Sarnów’s former community hall, which now houses the cultural centre and the volunteer fire brigade station. Alongside the historic building and settlement traces, this brings the village’s musical tradition and the present-day functions of a former community building into focus.

Road Connections

National Road 86 runs through Sarnów and connects Katowice with Warsaw. It provides the village’s connection to the wider road network; the village layout, brick road and historic walking trail, by contrast, offer ways to explore Sarnów itself.
