Lubliniec combines the history of its Old Town with a different focus in the Kokotek district: there, outdoor activities and Lake Posmyk take center stage. As you plan your trip, consider whether you would prefer to include architectural history, activities in the countryside, or both.

Old Town and architectural history

Lubliniec’s historic center dates back to the town’s medieval foundation under German law. Its layout includes a square market square, Plac Konrada Mańki, and streets mostly lined with 19th-century houses. House No. 5, the town’s oldest surviving market building, stands on the main market square. It dates from the late 18th century. In the market square and the streets of the historic center, you will encounter buildings from different periods: the medieval foundation, a market building from the late 18th century, and numerous houses from the 19th century.

The Church of St. Nicholas also tells the story of several phases of construction and renovation. It was originally a Gothic building; later, a Baroque building was erected using older walls. The market square reveals how the town’s layout developed, while the church shows the transformation of a single religious building.

Kokotek and outdoor activities

Kokotek is a tourist recreation district of Lubliniec, accessible via a cycling path that runs through the forest. Hiking, cycling, and horseback riding are possible there year-round; cross-country skiing is also available in winter.

Lake Posmyk in Kokotek is approximately 1.7 kilometers long and just under one kilometer wide. The lake is considerably longer than it is wide. Lake Posmyk gives Kokotek a different character from the historic buildings in the center.

Culture in the wider Lubliniec destination

In the wider Lubliniec destination, the wooden Church of St. Anne adds to the cultural and historical attractions. It stands on ul. Św. Anny in the center of Lubliniec and has undergone extensive renovation. It was built in 1653 and reconstructed between 1996 and 2004. Its interior is Baroque. The Muzeum Pro Memoria Edith Stein is located in a tenement house in Lubliniec that once belonged to Edith Stein’s grandparents, Adelajda and Salomon Courant.

In Steblów, the parish church is dedicated to Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, Edith Stein; in December 2021, it was elevated to the status of a sanctuary. Another historic site is the Jewish cemetery on ul. 11 Listopada in Lubliniec. It bears witness to the two-hundred-year presence of the Jewish population in this Silesian town. These sites bring together religious architectural history, the biographical connection to Edith Stein, and the town’s Jewish history.

The blue Turystyczna Cycling Route No. 852 leads from the Lipie district through the center of Lubliniec to Lubliniec-Wymyślacz.
