Woźniki combines historic buildings with an archaeological interpretation of its origins and a marked route for hikers. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay focused on local history, the town hall, St. Catherine’s Church, and Grodzisko make a clear focal point; for outdoor activities, there is also the Woźniki–Bąki route and the surrounding regional landscape. This makes it easy to choose what interests you most: architectural and local history, or trails and landscape as an additional focus.

Town Hall and Urban Layout

The town hall was built in 1862 as a two-story Neoclassical building with a gabled roof and is Woźniki’s architectural landmark. Its Neoclassical style, roof shape, and number of stories give the building distinct architectural features. The town’s urban layout is also listed in the register of monuments as a protected monument. This brings two scales into focus: the town hall as an individual building and the town’s protected structure. This distinction is useful if architecture is a particular interest on your trip.

Churches and Historic Memorials

The parish of St. Catherine’s Church has existed since the 13th century; the church is mentioned in 1347 and 1490. The present masonry church was built in 1607–1608 on the site of an earlier wooden church. It features Gothic-Renaissance forms that were altered by later renovations. Limestone rubble was used as the building material, with brick as a supplement. These details refer to different historical points: the parish’s long history, early mentions of the church, and the construction of the present church.

The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk stands in the market square next to St. Catherine’s Church. St. Valentine’s Cemetery Church is the oldest religious building in the municipality of Woźniki and is part of the Wooden Architecture Trail of Upper Silesia. For a broader picture of local history, there is also the Woźniki Battle Monument, which commemorates the fighting on September 2, 1939. Annual patriotic memorial ceremonies are held at the monument. If you would like to plan your trip around a ceremony, check the dates in advance.

Grodzisko and the Origins of Woźniki

The medieval, cone-shaped Grodzisko is identified with the original settlement from which Woźniki developed. It is listed in the register of monuments as an archaeological site. Metal objects found there are kept at the Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom. Together, these features connect the shape of Grodzisko with the settlement’s early history and give the site a distinct archaeological focus alongside the churches and town hall.
