Nature and cultural heritage are distinct focuses for a stay in Wapowce. The “Przełom Hołubli” nature reserve and the “Dolina Hołubli” nature and educational trail highlight the landscape; historic buildings and Parkus Gigantus add local history and knowledge about insects to the picture.

Nature Reserve and Landscape

A summary of the 2002 conservation plan gives an area of 4.25 hectares for the part of the “Przełom Hołubli” nature reserve in Wapowce and 42.18 hectares in Korytniki. Later boundary surveys may differ from these figures in the plan. The area’s natural character includes beech-oak-lime forest ecosystems and the gorge landscape of the Hołubla stream valley. The forest and stream valley thus offer two different aspects of the reserve: ecosystems shaped by beech, oak, and lime trees, and the landscape along the stream. If you are planning a visit to the nature reserve, check the current access regulations beforehand.

The “Dolina Hołubli” Nature and Educational Trail

The nature and educational trail is located in the Wapowce forest district. It starts and ends at a fenced-in “green classroom” with wooden shelters, combined benches and tables, a fire pit, a grill, and educational boards. The start and end point is therefore also an equipped learning station. The educational boards give the trail an additional educational dimension; the shelters and combined benches and tables are also part of the described facilities.

An earlier route description gives the circular trail through the forest by the nature reserve as approximately 6 km long. A forestry plan envisaged rerouting the trail and proposed new options. Therefore, check the current route if its approximate length or circular layout is important to your plans.

From Przemyśl, the access route to Dolina Hołubli follows provincial road 884 in the direction of Dubiecko. At Wapowce, turn right downhill; a sign bearing the trail’s name is visible from the road. Check local road conditions before setting out.

Church Complex and Manor Remains

Among Wapowce’s most significant sights are a former Greek Catholic church complex, now a Roman Catholic church, and a wooden bell tower. Remains of a manor complex with a park also survive. The two cultural features are distinct: the church complex’s former and current denominations are specified, while the surviving remains and park shape the picture of the manor. The local cultural highlights thus include both a complex still used for religious purposes and the remains of a manor.

Insect Knowledge at Parkus Gigantus

Parkus Gigantus offers a different focus: information about insects and an exhibition of preserved insect specimens. This sets it apart from the forest and gorge of the nature reserve, as well as from the architectural and local-history attractions. The emphasis here is on knowledge about insects and the preserved specimens.
