Krzywin: Church, Cycling Routes and Natura 2000
Accommodation in Krzywin
Krzywin can be explored through several specific themes: the parish church, with architectural and artistic features from several centuries; two cycling routes with named itineraries; and two Natura 2000 sites that partially include the village. You can consider the architecture, routes and types of protected areas separately when deciding whether Krzywin fits your travel plans.
Parish Church and Art
The parish church of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Krzywin is a Gothic building dating from the 15th century. Its square floor plan and masonry of fieldstone and brick are distinctive features of the building. The wooden tower is built into the body of the nave. The design therefore encompasses the floor plan and materials used, as well as the specific arrangement of the tower.
The church also preserves a decorative tracery gable from the 16th century. Tracery refers to the ornamental framework that characterizes the gable here. One of the church’s bells dates from 1937. In front of the entrance stands a 3.5-meter-high sculpture of Pope John Paul II, created by the artist Aleksander Fatiga from Krzywin. The dates referenced therefore range from the Gothic building to the later gable and the bell; the sculpture adds the work of a local artist to the picture.
Cycling Routes Compared
Two routes with different itineraries are relevant to cyclists in Krzywin. The blue Południowy Szlak Łącznikowy (Southern Connector Trail) runs from Ognica via Rynica to Krzywin railway station. The route is 8.95 kilometers long and follows paved and unpaved roads. This specifies both the intermediate stops and endpoint, as well as the road surfaces.
The black Banie–Baniewice–Żelechowo–Krzywin cycling route is 19.0 kilometers long. In Krzywin, it ends where it meets the blue Południowy cycling route of the Widuchowa municipality. It is slightly more than twice as long as the blue route. The endpoints also distinguish the routes: the blue route goes as far as Krzywin railway station, while the black route ends where it meets the blue route. Route length and itinerary thus provide concrete points of comparison.
Natura 2000 Sites
Krzywin lies partly within the Dolina Dolnej Odry (PLB 320003) Natura 2000 site, a special protection area for birds. The village also lies partly within the Dolna Odra (PLH 320037) Natura 2000 site, which protects habitats. The names and identification numbers distinguish the two forms of protection: PLB 320003 refers here to bird protection, while PLH 320037 refers to habitat protection. Both sites include Krzywin only in part; the protected feature and the spatial extent are therefore two distinct aspects of the classification.
Village Layout and Orientation
Krzywin is an oval-shaped village on the Southern Connector Cycling Route. Buildings are concentrated along Voivodeship Road 122 on the Krajnik Dolny–Pyrzyce route, as well as along municipal roads. The settlement pattern and the roads describe different aspects of the village’s layout: its oval shape characterizes the village, while the road information shows the axes along which buildings are concentrated. In addition to the church, cycling routes and protected areas, this gives you a concrete point of reference for locating Krzywin.
