Porost offers several clearly distinct themes to help you plan your trip: cycling routes pass through the village or lead to Lake Chlewo Wielkie, a nature reserve and a nature-education cycle route lie nearby, and the church brings together different periods of the village’s history. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Porost, you can first decide whether cycling, observing nature or local history will shape your stay. The destinations are also in different locations: the Greenway runs through Porost, Jezioro Piekiełko is 2.5 km to the east, and the educational trail starts near the village.

Cycling Routes and Lake Chlewo Wielkie

The “Rezerwat Buczyna” cycle route leads to Lake Chlewo Wielkie in Porost. The lake has a bathing area with sanitary facilities, tourist infrastructure and food and drink options. This makes the route a cycling trip with a clearly specified destination in the village. The Greenway–Naszyjnik Północy also passes through Porost, but has a different focus. Its route passes through forests and along their edges, past fields and directly through villages. Nature observation is possible along the Greenway; camping and fishing are also possible along the route. Another cycle route, Bobolice–Chociwle–Porost, follows a dirt road towards Porost and connects with the “Rezerwat Buczyna” cycle route. The cycling network therefore includes both a route with the lake as its destination and a Greenway focused on landscapes and nature observation.

Nature in the Surrounding Area

The Jezioro Piekiełko nature reserve is 2.5 km east of Porost. It protects a lobelia lake with relict plants. This gives it a different connection to nature from Lake Chlewo Wielkie, which is described as a bathing area with tourist infrastructure and food and drink options: here the focus is on protected plant life, while there it is on swimming.

A nature-education cycle route starts near the village of Porost, among wooded former farmland beside the road towards Drężno. It is 6.3 km long and has 11 coloured information boards. They describe botanical formations and interesting animals found in the surrounding area. The route thus combines a clearly stated length with information about plants and animals. Its starting point near Porost and the location of the nature reserve east of the village are two different points of reference for travellers interested in nature.

Church and Local History

The present-day church in Porost is a 19th-century building. It was built entirely anew as a Protestant church in 1867, at a new location, and was taken over by the Roman Catholic Church after 1945. A bell cast in 1583 belonged to an older, probably medieval, church in Porost. It remained there until 1945. The dates therefore refer to different periods in the church’s history: the bell belongs to the older church, while the present-day church was built later at a new location. For your trip planning, this historical connection complements the cycling routes and nature themes with a distinct focus on local history.
