Karsko combines a stay by the water with a historically distinctive village setting. Travel interests include Lake Karskie Wielkie and a bathing area with a pier, as well as the branch church of St. Anthony, two cemetery grounds, the manor house’s history, the manor farm park and a tree-lined avenue. The dated architectural and landscape features span the 13th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Karsko can therefore be explored both through its lake and through its religious and landscape features.

Lake and bathing area

Karsko is one kilometre from Lake Karskie Wielkie. There is a bathing area with a pier by the lake in Karsko. The one-kilometre distance offers a useful guide for planning; before your visit, check whether the bathing area operates seasonally and is open to the public.

Churches and cemeteries

The church cemetery is in the village centre and dates from the 13th century. The branch church of St. Anthony is a stone Gothic church from the second half of the 13th century, built by the Cistercians from Kołbacz. The cemetery and church thus point to the same broad period; the church’s construction date is more precisely placed in its second half.

The church’s main altar is made of wood, is polychrome, and dates from the 18th century. Polychrome means multicoloured: the wooden altar, with its painted decoration, thus contrasts with the Gothic stone building. This contrast in date and design offers architecture enthusiasts a tangible perspective on the building and its furnishings.

The former Protestant cemetery is now a municipal cemetery. It lies in the southwestern part of Karsko, west of Gorzowska Street, and dates from the mid-19th century. Its location and later date distinguish it from the church cemetery. The condition and access arrangements at historic sites can change; check what is possible before your visit.

Manor house, park and trees

The fortified hunting manor house in Karsko was built in 1624 by Adam von Schwartzenberg. The Baroque manor house in Karsko dates from 1755 and is located on the road to Barlinek. The Baroque manor house is privately owned and can be viewed from the outside; check access arrangements before your visit.

Three monumental trees grow beside the Baroque manor house: the pedunculate oak “Chochoł”, the small-leaved lime “Brzęczadło” and a horse chestnut. The pedunculate oak has the largest stated trunk circumference, at 450 centimetres, followed by the horse chestnut at 360 and the small-leaved lime at 330 centimetres.

The manor farm park is in the northwestern part of the village, east of the manor farm. Its period of origin spans the 18th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The avenue of deciduous trees runs along Mieszka I Street; its species include lime trees and horse chestnuts. It dates from the second half of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century. The park and avenue thus differ in both location and timeframe: the park combines the 18th century with the beginning of the 20th century, while the avenue dates from the second half of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century.
