Discover Karsko
Accommodation in Karsko
Karsko brings together architectural history, landscape features and a specific cycling route. The following features offer different points of reference when choosing a destination.
Branch church with two building phases
The branch church of St Anthony in Karsko was built by Cistercians from Kołbacz in the second half of the 13th century. However, its architectural history extends beyond this medieval origin: in the second half of the 19th century, the church was remodelled from Gothic to Neo-Gothic style. Its entire appearance changed in 1899. The church therefore brings together two clearly distinct building phases: its construction in the Middle Ages and its extensive remodelling in the 19th century. If you are interested in architecture, this transformation offers a particularly striking way to explore the building’s history. The term Neo-Gothic refers to the later revival of Gothic design forms.
Hunting lodge and manor house
In 1624, Adam von Schwartzenberg had a hunting lodge with defensive features built in Karsko. The former hunting lodge is now a ruin. Another historical chapter is represented by the Baroque manor house, built in 1755 on the order of an owner. The buildings differ in function and period: the hunting lodge was intended for hunting and had defensive features, while the manor house is notable for its Baroque architecture. Together, they offer two distinct points of reference if you would like to discover Karsko through its architectural history.
Manor park and natural monuments
The manor park in Karsko covers 3 hectares and contains around 40 tree and shrub species. Its natural monuments include the approximately 200-year-old oak “Chochoł”, the lime tree “Brzęczadło” and the horse chestnut. The age estimate applies to the oak; all three trees have natural monument status. Alongside its variety of trees and shrubs, the park therefore offers nature enthusiasts specific points of interest in the form of individual, named natural monuments.
Lake and cycling route
Lake Karskie Wielkie is 1 km from Karsko. There are beaches and bathing areas on the north and south shores; the north beach also has a boardwalk and a campsite. If these two additional features matter to your plans, the north shore is the place to head for; bathing areas are available on both shores. As exact access conditions may change, check them before your visit to the lake.
A blue cycling route passes through Karsko and is about 19 km long. Its approximate length gives you a concrete measure for planning your ride. Karsko is also located in the buffer zone of Gorzowski Landscape Park. When deciding on your trip, you can therefore consider two different perspectives: the cycling route through the village and the landscape setting of the area.
