Lake Studnica covers 102 hectares, is 8.5 kilometres long and up to 25 metres deep. These three measurements describe different aspects of the lake: its area, length and maximum depth. For navigation, it is also important to know that two kayaking routes meet at the lake and other sections begin there or run alongside it. The lake and its waterways are thus closely linked to Drezno’s location.

Kayaking routes and finding your way on the water

Stanica ZHP is considered the best starting point for the Gwda canoe trail. The scout hostel is located in Drezno on the shore of Lake Studnica. The upper section of this trail is 45 kilometres long, starts at Lake Studnica and ends in Lubnicki Mlyn. This identifies both a starting point in the village and the endpoints of a longer section.

The “Pętla Szczecinecka” runs across Lake Studnica between Drezno and Orawka. This kayaking route also includes the section of the Gwda from the lake to Dołga in the village of Gwda Wielka. The Gwda and “Pętla Szczecinecka” kayaking routes meet at Lake Studnica and continue together there. This makes it possible to distinguish between the routes: the upper Gwda section is described by its length and endpoint at Lubnicki Mlyn; the Pętla runs across the lake between Drezno and Orawka and includes the Gwda section as far as Dołga.

At the Stanica Harcerska in Drezno, a 12-metre-long and more than 2-metre-wide pier was launched on 9 September 2019. If the pier is relevant to your plans, please check its current condition in advance.

The lake and surrounding landscape

Near Drezno, the Gwda flows between Lakes Studnica and Wielimie through the “Lakes of Szczecinek” protected landscape area. This adds another stretch of the water landscape to the immediate surroundings of Lake Studnica. The distinction is useful for finding your way: the lake is the reference point for the village’s location and the kayaking routes mentioned; the Gwda in the protected area is part of the wider surroundings.
