Molokovsky District: Churches and Culture
Accommodation in Molokovsky District
The churches in Molokovsky District represent different facets of sacred architecture. For some, specific construction dates and consecrations are prominent; for others, altars, side chapels, or an architectural classification take center stage. The local history museum and the spring of Saint Seraphim of Sarov add to the cultural attractions.
Churches in Molokovsky District
The Church of the Ascension in Molokovsky District was built between 1795 and 1799; its main church was consecrated in 1809. Two side chapels are dedicated to Our Lady of Kazan and the Nativity of John the Baptist. The construction period, consecration, and the two church dedications therefore offer distinct points of reference for understanding the building’s history.
In Deledino, the Church of the All-Merciful Savior was built in 1821 and described as a significant monument of provincial architecture. Here, the exact year of construction is accompanied by an architectural characterization as part of the church’s history.
The stone Church of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Antonovskoye has three altars and side chapels dedicated to Our Lady of Kazan and the Dormition of the Mother of God. Its stone construction, number of altars, and dedications give it a different descriptive focus from the dates of the churches in Deledino and Molokovsky District.
Dates are also recorded for other churches: 1813 for the Church of the Resurrection in Beloye and 1823 for the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Vvedenye. The name Trinity Church appears in Sloboda and Troitsa: the date recorded is 1810 in Sloboda and 1802 in Troitsa. The place name and year therefore both help distinguish the respective churches.
Museum and Religious Tradition
Molokovsky Municipal District is home to a local history museum named after N. V. Ogarkov, a marshal and Hero of the Soviet Union. The spring of Saint Seraphim of Sarov is known for its reputed healing properties. Alongside the historic churches, visitors can therefore explore a named cultural institution and a religious tradition.
