Santa Clara Del Mar: Beaches, History and Culture
Accommodation in Santa Clara Del Mar
A coastal town with many facets
Santa Clara del Mar combines a clearly defined coastline with places where the history and culture of this seaside town come to life. When planning your stay, it is worth considering these highlights separately: the beaches shape the coastline, while museums and historic sites offer their own insights into local history. When looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether you want to focus mainly on the coast, the town’s history, or also the natural surroundings of the wider Mar Chiquita destination.
Beaches and the coastline
Santa Clara del Mar has seven beaches separated by stone breakwaters. This built-up layout describes the coastline more specifically than simply mentioning the beach. It is a distinctive part of the townscape and offers a different focus from the museums and historic sites that tell the story of the seaside town.
Local history and culture
Casa Museo Balcón de Los Santos was the seaside town’s first house and today preserves its history, culture, traditions, and identity. It is located at Avenida Hermanos Orensanz 516; from its balcony, you can look out over the sea. The site thus combines a specific address and an architectural connection to the coast with its role as a museum.
Rotonda del Viejo Contrabandista forms the historic heart of Santa Clara del Mar. The Pachamama Municipal Natural Science Museum offers a different perspective on the past: its paleontological collection includes more than 3,000 exhibits. While the Rotonda represents the historic heart and Casa Museo preserves the history of the seaside town, Pachamama focuses on paleontology.
Parque Municipal “El Diego” is also one of the local attractions, with various tributes to Diego Armando Maradona. Cine Teatro Leonardo Favio is another place worth seeing; its program may vary. A dated event is the opening of the 24th edition of the Fiesta Nacional de la Cerveza Artesanal, celebrated in Santa Clara del Mar in February 2026.
The wider landscape of Mar Chiquita
For nature-related activities, the wider Mar Chiquita destination offers its own regional perspective. The Partido de Mar Chiquita has 67 kilometers of beaches. The landscape also includes the Albufera de Mar Chiquita, a shallow coastal lagoon connected to the sea that periodically or occasionally receives fresh water from inland. The Reserva de Biosfera Parque Atlántico Mar Chiquito encompasses the marine coast, beaches, coastal dunes, grassland, lagoons, and Pampas wetlands. The Reserva Natural Mar Chiquita protects three main habitats: the Albufera, coastal Pampas grassland, and the dune belt.
The general public can access the Reserva Natural Mar Chiquita via Kilometer 483 of Provincial Route No. 11 through Balneario Parque Mar Chiquita. Visitors can walk as far as Boca de la AlbĂşfera in the nature reserve. The Sendero de la Albufera runs along the lagoon shore to its mouth at the sea and begins with an interactive presentation in the Sala de InterpretaciĂłn de la Naturaleza. This information relates to Mar Chiquita and complements the attractions in Santa Clara del Mar with a distinct regional nature perspective.
For visitors, the Partido de Mar Chiquita is divided into interconnected inland and coastal areas. Activities available in its coastal towns include fishing, surfing, and windsurfing; rural tourism is available in the inland towns of Coronel Vidal, Vivoratá, General Pirán, Calfucurá, and Nahuel Rucá. The wider destination therefore offers inland as well as coastal experiences.
