Discover Japeri: Trails, Air Sports and Railway Heritage
Accommodation in Japeri
Japeri offers several clearly distinct themes to help you plan your trip: trails and waterfalls, activities at Pico da Coragem, Pedra Lisa, railway heritage and golf. If you’re looking for a hotel for a stay here, you can first decide whether you’d like to focus your visit on hiking, air sports, rappelling, railway history or golf. The information below groups these highlights by specific places and activities.
Trails, waterfalls and Pico da Coragem
Pico da Coragem is approximately 520 meters high. Cachoeira da Saudade is located along the 2.5 km trail to Pico. These figures describe two different measurements: approximately 520 meters is the height of Pico, while 2.5 km is the length of the trail leading there. This distinction is useful for planning because it separates the destination’s elevation from the trail distance. A municipal visitor description from 2024 identifies both residents of the municipality and visitors from other places as guests at Pico da Coragem.
Caminho da Coragem is a hiking trail lined with waterfalls that is used for walks. In addition to the trail to Pico, whose length is given as 2.5 km and which passes Cachoeira da Saudade, it is a second clearly identified hiking option: waterfalls along the trail and walks are described here. A municipal description from February 2025 also presents the Japeri–Seropédica crossing. It starts in central Japeri and includes a walk with the option of swimming in the river.
Air sports and rappelling
Pico da Coragem has ramps for free flight, paragliding and hang gliding. This makes the area interesting not only for hikers but also for travelers whose main interest is air sports. Pedra Lisa is a different activity spot: the rock has a 90-degree slope and is used for rappelling. The activities mentioned are clearly distinct—flying at Pico da Coragem and rappelling at Pedra Lisa.
Railway history and golf
Estação Ferroviária de Japeri is a cultural and historical highlight. The former Belém Station is now known as Estação Ferroviária de Japeri. It opened in 1858 and has also been designated as a protected national railway heritage site. Its name, opening year and protected status give the station a distinct place in history. If you’re interested in railway history as well as trails and activities, you can include this in your trip plans.
Japeri Golfe is Brazil’s first public golf course. A municipal post from 2023 also describes training opportunities for visitors there. So, alongside hiking, air sports and rappelling, golf is another stated interest for a stay; the note about training opportunities is specifically attributed to the 2023 description.
