In Volta Redonda, industrial history, cultural sites, and protected nature come together. When looking for a hotel, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: would you like to learn about the steel industry and urban planning, explore cultural venues, or include nature and cycling in your plans? These different themes give you a concrete starting point for shaping your trip around your interests.

Industrial History and Urban Planning

Caminhos da Vila is a tour of the city’s industrial heritage. Through remnants of the urban planning of the workers’ town built in collaboration with Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN), it recalls the industrialization of Brazil, in which Volta Redonda played a part. The history of the place is therefore reflected not only in individual monuments, but also in the planning of the workers’ town.

Several monuments at Praça Brasil illustrate the city’s connection to the steel industry. They include a full-length bronze statue of President Getúlio Vargas and three statues symbolizing the steel industry and honoring CSN employees, known as Arigós. A central obelisk bears reliefs depicting various stages of steel production. The figures and reliefs highlight different aspects: the statues honor people and workers, while the reliefs show stages of production.

Cultural Venues in Vila Santa Cecília

The Memorial Zumbi dos Palmares was inaugurated as a cultural center on June 1, 1990. It serves to preserve African cultural values and promote affirmative action. The memorial and the Zumbi dos Palmares sculpture in Vila Santa Cecília also include an amphitheater and an exhibition hall, which are used for events celebrating Black culture and other cultural events. This makes the venue’s cultural focus tangible through its dedicated event spaces.

Also in Vila Santa Cecília, Espaço das Artes Zélia Arbex is dedicated to exhibitions and cultural events. In 2024, a creative space for art workshops was added. Check whether and when workshops are taking place before making specific plans.

Natural Areas and Trails

Floresta da Cicuta is a federal protected area in the Área de Relevante Interesse Ecológico (ARIE) category, located between the municipalities of Volta Redonda and Barra Mansa. Parque Natural Municipal Fazenda Santa Cecília do Ingá covers 211 hectares. About 90 hectares of this area are covered by native Atlantic Forest and reforested land.

Following the revitalization, walking trails were planned for the park once activities resumed. Check whether the trails are currently available before visiting. A report on a guided tour of Floresta da Cicuta in May 2026 describes a 1,800-meter route to Cachoeira do Rio Brandão. Check with ICMBio for current access and guided-tour options.

It complements the natural attractions of the protected areas with an urban site that has its own ecological context.
