San Luis can be explored through several distinct sites. One route ends at Parque Principal in the town center; nearby are the RĂo DormilĂłn in the El Balseadero sector, swimming spots, and waterfalls. The Petroglifo del BĂşho adds an archaeological theme. If you are looking for a hotel in San Luis, you can plan your stay around your preferred focus: visiting the town, exploring the river landscape, or discovering natural and cultural sites.

Town Center and Local History

In the town center, one route ends at Parque Principal. The square is therefore a clear destination within San Luis. Nearby, Cascada La Planta is named after a hydroelectric plant that once stood there. From 1959 to 1976, the plant generated electricity for the municipality. The name connects the waterfall with a specific former use of the water and gives it a local historical dimension as well as a landscape connection.

An Archaeological Highlight

El Prodigio is located near San Luis. Its most important archaeological find and symbol is the Petroglifo del BĂşho: a pre-Hispanic figure carved into limestone. The find has a clear historical period, material, and motif. Unlike the river and swimming spots, the focus here is not water but an archaeological artifact. This offers culturally curious travelers a different way to experience the surrounding area.

RĂo DormilĂłn and Swimming Spots

One route continues to the Río Dormilón in the El Balseadero sector. Charco de Abajo and Charco del Medio are among the swimming spots there. The Ribering is a walk along the riverbank to the swimming spots there. Its circuit includes Charco Las Piedras—also called El Tobogán Natural or piscina Natural—as well as El Arroyo. The three names Charco Las Piedras, El Tobogán Natural, and piscina Natural refer to the same swimming spot; El Arroyo is another named stop. This distinction is useful for orientation: Charco de Abajo and Charco del Medio are the names of two separate swimming spots, while El Tobogán Natural and piscina Natural do not refer to additional places besides Charco Las Piedras.

Pools and Waterfalls

Charco La Planta is considered the largest swimming pool in Oriente Antioqueño and has an approximate diameter of 50 meters. Cascada La Cuba is characterized by an approximate drop of 100 meters. It has a rest house, natural pools, and a nearby ecological park with a wooden path. Diameter and drop refer to different features—the size of a pool and the height of a waterfall—and therefore cannot be directly compared. This makes it possible to distinguish the natural attractions by their specific features.

The routes also have different focuses: one ends at Parque Principal in the town center, while the Ribering is a riverside walk with swimming spots. This helps distinguish a visit to the town from an outing in the river landscape.
